The Office of the Commissioner for Federal Judicial Affairs (FJA) was established in 1978 in order to create an independent entity tasked with providing services to active and retired federally appointed judges and their survivors.

Our offices are located at 99 Metcalfe Street, in the heart of downtown Ottawa.

The area is served by all major bus routes and a light rail station, and employees have access in the building to amenities such as kitchens, showers, change rooms, secure bicycle storage and underground parking.

At the corner of our building, we have a Second Cup, a Starbucks and a Tim Hortons.

All employees are expected to balance working remotely with being on site for a minimum of 2 days per week.

This is a continuous intake of applications, to create and maintain an inventory of candidates for casual opportunities.

Casual employment definition:

Casual workers are hired for specified periods that may not exceed 90 working days in one calendar year, in a department or in an agency to which the Public Service Commission (PSC) has exclusive authority to make appointments.

The period of casual employment may be for one or more than one term, but is not to exceed 90 working days in a department or agency in a calendar year.

A secondary school diploma or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

  • Experience conducting general *administrative tasks.
*Administrative activities are defined as, but not limited to: preparing various types of documents, responding to inquiries and providing necessary information, paying invoices, managing a generic email box, performing data entry, maintaining a filing system, creating letters from templates, sending and receiving correspondence, managing and distributing information within the office, entering and tracking information in databases, answering phones, booking travel, managing meeting logistics, electronic information management, scanning documents, tracking budget expenses, minutes, client services, etc. Experience in the provision of compensation services in the Federal Public Service.

  • Experience entering data into an integrated financial system such as SAP or a corporate financial system (i.e. Experience in verifying and processing invoices, claims or various types of payments.
  • Experience in reviewing contracts and agreement documents.
  • Experience working in a quasi-judicial or legal environment (Tribunal, Court, Commission, Board, Law firm).
  • Experience in maintaining a database and preparing reports.
  • Aboriginal persons, persons with disabilities, visible minorities, women
