Winnipeg is a city of approximately 750,000 people located on the Red River, 112 kilometers north of the U.S. border. Being near the centre of Canada, it is a major transportation hub. Qualifications

Essential:

  • Undergraduate degree in international development, agronomy or related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in international development focusing on food security including food assistance, agriculture or other livelihood interventions.
  • Familiarity with planning, monitoring and evaluation tools, resultsbased management and external donor project management.
  • Demonstrated skills in planning and administration, with the ability to work independently and take initiative and responsibility with mínimal supervision.
  • Personable manner and strong inpersonal, written and oral communications skills.
  • Strong administrative and organizational skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Efficient, dependable and persistent in following through on tasks.
  • Flexible working style that is able to adapt and prioritize attention to multiple tasks and competing demands.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well under pressure and with deadlines.
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally, up to 60 days per year.

Preferred:

  • Master's degree
  • Proficiency in additional languages, particularly French and Spanish.
  • Project management experience with funding from Global Affairs Canada or Canadian Foodgrains Bank.
  • Experience working with NGO Online program software.

Contact/Relationships:

This position requires extensive contact with MCC area directors, MCC representatives, program staff and other PLDR coordinators in project management and sharing food security and planning, monitoring, and evaluation (PME) best practices.

It requires significant contact with representatives of Canadian Foodgrains Bank (CFGB) in project management. The position requires networking with communications, marketing, development and donor relations staff as requested. The position participates in MCC and CFGB working groups and requires networking with peer agencies.

Supervision:
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Complexity/Competencies:

The position requires strong technical knowledge in the food security and livelihoods sector as well as strong project management skills.

The position is responsible for supporting MCC country programs in project planning for food security and livelihood projects. A strong understanding of Canadian Foodgrains Bank funding requirements is necessary.

Independent Action:
The position requires leadership and independence in managing MCC and CFGB funded projects.

They must be a self-starter and leader in initiating and maintaining contact with MCC area directors, representatives, and other MCC country office staff.

The position reviews and recommends projects for approval by the PLDR director and area directors as well as CFGB.

Initiative and Ingenuity:
The position requires creativity and adaptability in project management including with external funders.

They must both motivate and support MCC country offices in project development, implementation, and evaluation while at the same time providing constructive feedback on areas of improvement.

The position provides coaching and training for MCC staff in the food security and livelihood sector.

Communication/Interpersonal Skills:
The position requires strong verbal and written communication skills.

They frequently engage in communication with MCC staff in international program to ensure compliance with MCC and CFGB policy and best practices.

The position provides feedback on project proposals and reports that must be done in a constructive manner. The position also requires strong regular communication with project officers at CFGB.
