QUALIFICATIONS:

  • University degree in business, finance or accounting;
  • Professional Accounting Designation (CPA);
  • Minimum of five (5) years experience in finance with a strong foundation in accounting principles, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, auditing, financial planning, and related tasks;
  • Minimum of three (3) years experience leading a finance team;
  • Experienced in leading change initiatives, specifically system implementation and migration,
  • Strong business sense, and demonstrated ability to understand business needs;
  • Excellent relationship building ability with internal and external stakeholders;
  • Strong communication skills; able to lead and inspire confidence;

RESPONSIBILITIES:


Reporting directly to the VP, Finance and Administration, the Finance Manager is responsible for the day-to-day management and operation of the Finance department.


Financial Management:

  • Manage the month, quarter, and yearend closing processes (account reconciliations, deferred revenue recognition, investments, fixed assets) to ensure reporting deadlines are met.
  • Oversee daily operations in Sage (current financial system) including receiving, processing, and monitoring all accounts receivable and payable activities.
  • Monitor cash flow forecasting and tax submissions.

Change Management and Finance Policy, Process, Procedures:

  • Understand end-to-end financial processes and continuously identify opportunities for modernization, optimization and streamlining of workflows and systems to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
  • In 2024, lead the Finance group to migrate to a new financial system.
  • Oversee the operations and development of the finance department, including policy creation, training, and regular assessments of financial procedures and processes.
  • Develop and ensure the effective implementation of appropriate accountability mechanisms and controls through financial policies, processes and forecast monitoring.

Financial Reporting:

  • Facilitate the financial reporting process by ensuring accurate and timely extraction of financial data from systems and the production/development of operating reports required by management.
  • Undertake detailed analysis covering operational and financial performance of the various programs and departments.
  • Advise colleagues and senior management on financial decisions.
  • Assist the VP, Finance and Administration in the development and execution of the annual forecasts and budget.
  • Support the VP, Finance and Administration with reporting requirements to the Board of Directors.

Compliance:

  • Organize, plan, and execute annual audit in coordination with auditors as well as any other ad hoc audits (i.e. CRA)
  • Responsible for ensuring timely and accurate statutory reporting requirements.

People Leadership:

  • Mediate between the organization, employees, volunteers and stakeholders on financial issues for amicable resolution.
  • Provide leadership to the Finance team through recruitment, support and coaching leading to high motivation and strong performance (including performance evaluations).
