Appointment Type:
This is a core, ongoing, regular-status Providence Health Care (PHC) position (union-excluded). However, all research-funded positions are dependent on grant funding continuing to be available.

Bridging the gap between data, research, and care, CHÉOSis a collaboration between cross-disciplinary scientists and expert research staff evaluating the effectiveness of health interventions at the population level.


The CTNis a collaborative network committed to generating knowledge on the prevention, treatment, and management of HIV, hepatitis C, and other sexually transmitted and blood-borne infections (STBBIs) through the conduct of scientifically sound clinical trials, research, and other interventions.


From assessing the cost-effectiveness of a new drug or treatment option to informing policy decisions that change how care is delivered, CHÉOS and the CTN seek to improve health outcomes for all.

The Role
Reporting to the Human Resources Manager, the Human Resources (HR) Coordinator supports the HR team in a variety of functions related to people and culture including full-cycle recruitment; employee retention and performance; workplace culture and morale projects; strategizing the advancement of equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) initiatives; on
- and off-boarding staff; and synthesizing HR-related information and updates from Providence Health Care (PHC), Providence Research (PR), the University of British Columbia (UBC), and BC Employment Standards laws

What you'll be doing:

  • Coordinate and facilitate human resources functions including but not limited to; recruitment and staffing, compensation and benefits, training and development, and occupational health and safety.
  • Participate in the development of antidiscrimination policies, and other policies aiming to advance EDI at the Centre.
  • Tactfully communicate sensitive information such as salary, title, or FTE adjustments.
  • Draft, communicate, and promote diversity and inclusion initiatives, such as "Days/Events of Note", antidiscrimination policies, relevant workshops and training opportunities etc.
  • Research, initiate, and support inhouse professional development and training opportunities for staff and Scientists.
  • Manage Scientist and Research Associate appointment and reappointment letters and maintain associated lists.
  • Maintain familiarity with employee benefit and pension plans and personnel policies.
  • Manage internal HR manual/guide.
  • Keep thorough and accurate personnel records and a master HR employee inventory.
  • Facilitate and manage the new hire process by setting up new employees on PHC and PR systems, completing and submitting new hire forms, liaising with PHC & PR HR personnel, and informing relevant departments to set up accounts, equipment, workstations, etc.
  • Facilitate and manage the on and offboarding process for staff.
  • Draft letters for employment confirmations and "employment end as planned per end date" letters.
  • Communicate staffing changes, as appropriate, to applicable departments (e.g. IT, communications, finance, etc.).
  • Liaise with ERB, Manager Support, and Payroll for any discrepancies related to the employee's benefits, payroll, etc., and update the employee of the issue in a timely manner.
  • Contribute to a positive work environment that stimulates inclusivity, excellence, creativity, professionalism, collegiality, and wellbeing.
  • Provide coverage for other administrators, as required.
  • Engage in the initiation and execution of special projects, as the need may arise.
