Job Summary

The Research Coordinator (RC) will manage and oversee all research associated with the study "Using a virtual care platform to deliver peer-led mental health support to rural and remote communities in BC: A randomized wait-list controlled trial of the REACHOUT intervention" funded by the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) International and has the following objectives:

  • To investigate the effectiveness of REACHOUT compared to wait-list control on reducing DD levels at 6 months using the RE-AIM Framework (reach, effectiveness, adoption, implementation, and maintenance).

  • To conduct a qualitative process evaluation of REACHOUT across the five BC health authorities (Northern Health, Interior Health, Vancouver Island Health, Fraser Health, Vancouver Coastal) to identify facilitators and barriers to the implementation process and potential for sustainability from the perspective of participants, Peer Supporters, researchers, research users, and stakeholders.

  • To conduct a cost-effectiveness and cost-utility analysis of REACHOUT compared to a wait-list control condition.

The Tang Diabetes Lab is looking for a motivated, reliable and resourceful research coordinator (RC) to support its work. The RC will make professional decisions and recommendations on all aspects of the research work. The RC will oversee preparation of provincial ethics applications, budget tracking and management, development and implementation of patient-oriented qualitative (i.e. focus groups, interviews) and quantitative data collection procedures, data analysis, and planning of knowledge translation activities. The RC will mentor and supervise students and trainees and will also liaise with provincial stakeholders and an interdisciplinary research team both at UBC and other associated teaching institutions. This position will be performed remotely.

Organizational Status
This position will report to Dr. Tricia Tang.

Work Performed

The Research Coordinator will:

  • Implement and monitor protocols, workplans, and timelines for the REACHOUT study.

  • Retrieve clinical endpoint data (e.g., Time in Range) from Dexcom Clarity.

  • Assisting with sending participants and peer supporters requisitions for A1c collection.

  • Oversee updates regarding data collection and data management.

    • Includes overseeing Time in Range collection and A1c Collection with participants and peer supporters.

  • Develop, modify and maintain study databases and perform related data analyses.

  • Perform administrative tasks for the research team (e.g., sending calendar invites with Zoom links and Doodle polls, weekly team emails, creating Calendly pages etc.)

  • Train and manage research assistants and students as required.

  • Work both independently and collaboratively with others, to support meeting the objective of the project(s).

  • Participate in monthly team meetings and work group meetings where needed.

  • Perform other related duties as required.

Consequence of Error/Judgement

This work is instrumental to JDRF's initiative to improve the mental health of the type 1 diabetes community. As such, errors made could influence the ability of research staff to meet critical

financial loss to the Principal Investigator and the university departments

Supervision Received

Dr. Tricia Tang, Clinical Associate Professor UBC Department of Pediatrics and Head of the Division

of Endocrinology, will provide direction and will oversee performance and results of the investigation. The research coordinator will be expected to develop a work plan and timelines and exercise a considerable amount of judgement and initiative in duties and supervisory responsibilities.
