The School of Computing at Queen’s University invites applications for a faculty position at the rank of Assistant (tenure-track), Associate or Full Professor (tenured) that centers on cyber security. The successful candidate will play a vital role in enhancing the teaching and development of a diverse range of undergraduate and graduate security courses, while also taking on the responsibility of supervising MSc and PhD students engaged in cutting-edge cybersecurity research. The School of Computing offers a dedicated security option at the undergraduate level, and the School boasts an NSERC CREATE Cybersecurity Program at the graduate level. Moreover, the selected candidate will become a member of the Queen’s Centre for Security and Privacy (QCSP) – a university‐wide, multidisciplinary research center, and have ample opportunities to collaborate on interdisciplinary research projects involving experts from various departments, including Electrical and Computer Engineering and the School of Business, while making full use of the advanced digital research infrastructure available at the Queen’s Centre for Advanced Computing (CAC). In addition to these collaborations, the candidate will be working alongside cybersecurity specialists from the Royal Military College (RMC) of Canada.

The successful candidate will be expected to:

  • contribute to academic and pedagogical excellence in support of the programs in the School of Computing;
  • lead and conduct globally recognized research in the area of cybersecurity;
  • work collaboratively in an interdisciplinary and student-focused environment; and
  • provide effective service contributions to the School, the Faculty of Arts and Science, the University, and the broader community.

The School of Computing has 34 full-time and 20 cross-appointed faculty, over 1200 undergraduate students, and over 200 graduate students. The School offers undergraduate programs in Computer Science, Software Design, Biomedical Computing, Computing and Mathematics, Computing and the Creative Arts and Cognitive Science, as well as dedicated major options in Artificial Intelligence, Biomedical Computation, Data Analytics, Fundamental Computation, Game Development, and Security. The School also offers Master’s, and Doctoral programs in Computer Science, with dedicated programs for Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity, Medical Informatics, and Biomedical Informatics.

Qualifications

Candidates shall have a Ph.D. in Computer Science, or a related discipline completed at the start date of the appointment. The ideal candidate will demonstrate that they are an outstanding scientist and educator. The preferred candidate must demonstrate comprehensive research expertise that complements existing research areas in the School of Computing. The candidate will build on and extend the School’s existing research strengths in cybersecurity.

The main criteria for selection are (i) demonstrated commitment to academic and teaching excellence in a post-secondary computing education environment and curriculum development experience; and (ii) a demonstrated capacity for exceptional research in cyber security. The successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate excellent teaching contributions at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, service and administration, and research or scholarship. Support for course development and delivery as well as the scholarship of teaching and learning will be provided to the successful candidate by the Faculty of Arts and Science and through the Queen’s Centre for Teaching and Learning.

Vaccination Requirements

Prior to May 1, 2022, the University required all students, faculty, staff, and visitors (including contractors) to declare their COVID-19 vaccination status and provide proof that they were fully vaccinated or had an approved accommodation to engage in in-person University activities.
