Position Detail:

We are looking for an experienced Lead Hand, Journeyperson Electrician to join our team. This position is located in Kapuskasing, ON .

Reporting to the Eastern Operations Manager, the Lead Hand, Journeyperson Electrician will oversee the safe and effective operation and maintenance of electrical, control, hydraulic, and minor mechanical work related to power generation at our Kapuskasing, Ontario sites. Will be responsible for the operational and maintenance aspects as well as ensuring the safety of the crew.

Our ideal candidate possesses experience, passion and energy to be a driving force in FirstLight’s continued evolution to accelerate the decarbonization of the electric grid to meet the clean energy needs of tomorrow.

Key Responsibilities Include, But Are Not Limited To:

  • Responsible for all aspects of electrical, control, hydraulic and minor mechanical work related to hydroelectric power generation and associated control, auxiliary, distribution, transformation, and transmission systems including responding to power system and other emergencies in accordance with documented safety procedures, sound judgement and good utility practices;
  • Assign appropriate level of internal personnel (including contractors) to the maintenance tasks and ensure that all maintenance work is conducted safely and in accordance with company policies and procedures;
  • Monitor project budgets and participate in the budget planning process for each station;
  • Maintain and promote a safety focus by monitoring activities with an emphasis on adherence to all safety/environmental regulations and policies;
  • Participate in planning and scheduling activities to optimize workflow and meet project deadlines; Coordinate with Maintenance Planner and Operations manager to ensure alignment between maintenance schedules and operational needs;
  • Regularly communicate with the Operations Manager to provide timely project and personnel updates;
  • Act as a liaison between the maintenance team and other departments to facilitate seamless coordination of activities;
  • Assist the Operations Manager in evaluating the effectiveness of maintenance strategies and implementing improvements as necessary;
  • Complies with all Corporate policies and procedures;
  • Carries out other duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications / Skills

  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent;
  • Must have a valid Ontario 309A - Construction and Maintenance Electrician certification or equivalent;
  • 5+ years of industrial experience as a Journeyperson in an Electrical trade;
  • Demonstrated leadership, coaching and mentoring skills;
  • Knowledge of budget preparation and administration;
  • Experience in hydropower generation, a plus;
  • Willing to work on other operational systems with provided safety training;
  • Must be a motivated, self-starter who is able to work with minimal supervision and be eager to learn;
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with a strong attention to detail;
  • Bilingual – French and English, preferred
  • Computerized control systems experience, a plus;
  • Hydraulics knowledge/experience is preferred;
  • Experience with Confined Space Entry requirements is preferred;
  • Must have a valid class G driver’s license with a clean driving record;
  • Intermediate MS Office skills;
  • Able to work overtime and respond to call-in’s outside of normal working hours including evenings, weekends and holidays;
  • Able to respond to emergencies within 30 minutes of call-in;
  • Able to travel to other company sites within Ontario including overnight trips as needed.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to climb heights and work in confined spaces, on station structures, ladders, stairs, staging and equipment as well as lift, work indoors and outdoors in a variety of weather conditions and temperatures and stand; all over considerable distances and for extended periods of time.

Relevant du Responsable des Opérations de l'Est, le chef d'équipe, compagnon électricien, supervisera l'exploitation et l'entretien sûrs et efficaces des travaux électriques, de contrôle, hydrauliques et mécaniques mineurs liés à la production d'électricité sur nos sites de Kapuskasing, en Ontario. Il sera responsable des aspects opérationnels et de maintenance ainsi que d’assurer la sécurité de l’équipe.

Notre candidat idéal possède l’expérience, la passion et l’énergie nécessaires pour être une force motrice dans l’évolution continue de H2O afin d’accélérer la décarbonisation du réseau électrique afin de répondre aux besoins en énergie propre de demain.

Les principales responsabilités comprennent, sans s’y limiter :

  • Responsable de tous les aspects des travaux électriques, de contrôle, hydrauliques et mécaniques mineurs liés à la production d'énergie hydroélectrique et aux systèmes de contrôle, auxiliaires, de distribution, de transformation et de transmission associés, y compris la réponse au système électrique et à d'autres urgences conformément aux procédures de sécurité documentées, à un bon jugement et bonnes pratiques d'utilité publique ;
  • Affecter le niveau approprié de personnel interne (y compris les entrepreneurs) aux tâches de maintenance et garantir que tous les travaux de maintenance sont effectués en toute sécurité et conformément aux politiques et procédures de l'entreprise ;
  • Surveiller les budgets des projets et participer au processus de planification budgétaire de chaque station ;
  • Maintenir et promouvoir l'accent sur la sécurité en surveillant les activités en mettant l'accent sur le respect de toutes les réglementations et politiques en matière de sécurité et d'environnement ;

Qualifications professionnelles / Compétences

  • Doit détenir un diplôme d'études secondaires ou l'équivalent ;
  • Doit détenir une certification valide d'électricien de construction et d'entretien de l'Ontario 309A ou l'équivalent ;
  • 5+ années d'expérience industrielle en tant que compagnon dans un métier électrique ;
  • Compétences démontrées en leadership, en coaching et en mentorat ;
  • Connaissance de la préparation et de l'administration du budget ;
  • Expérience en production hydroélectrique, un atout ;
  • Disposé à travailler sur d'autres systèmes opérationnels avec une formation en sécurité fournie ;
  • Doit être motivé, entreprenant, capable de travailler avec un minimum de supervision et désireux d'apprendre ;
  • Solides compétences en communication écrite et verbale avec une grande attention aux détails ;
  • Bilingue – français et anglais, de préférence
