Our client, an employee-owned construction solutions partner recognized as one of Canada's leading engineering firms, is seeking an Indigenous Relations Specialist to join their team in British Columbia. This role is crucial in leading interactions and programming with Indigenous communities, ensuring effective relationship-building and support for cultural initiatives.
Responsibilities:
- Build and maintain relationships between the company and Indigenous communities, ensuring follow-ups are aligned with project requirements and business strategy.
- Proactively communicate and engage with Indigenous partners, sharing important information to facilitate timely participation and consideration.
- Conduct research and develop an understanding of key Indigenous communities prior to initial interactions.
- Support the company's Canadian Council for Aboriginal Business (CCAB) initiatives and contribute to Economic Reconciliation efforts during project execution.
- Assist project teams in establishing training, contracting, procurement, and employment opportunities with Indigenous communities.
- Plan and collaborate on major Indigenous events with various company departments.
- Coordinate with the Corporate Indigenous Relations team to develop strategic initiatives.
- Liaise with the Supply Chain to assist Indigenous subcontractors and suppliers with the vendor pre-qualification process.
- Work with business development teams to align the company’s services with community needs.
- Communicate effectively across all levels of the organization, handling sensitive information with integrity and confidentiality.
Ideal Candidate Requirements:
- Diploma or university degree, or equivalent experience with community-based knowledge.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in Indigenous or community relations, business development, or project management.
- Demonstrated cultural and business awareness of Indigenous peoples, particularly in Western Canada.
- Proven ability to execute effective community engagement strategies and work in cross-cultural settings.
- Ability to meet deadlines with minimal supervision and a proven capacity to be a self-starter.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, exceptional organizational abilities, and strong personal motivation.
- Experience in preparing proposal content related to Indigenous engagement is an asset.
- Familiarity with CCAB PAR and APC programs and experience navigating the PAR Certification process is beneficial.
- Proficiency with MS Office Suite and current communication platforms.
