AdvanTec Marine is looking for an experienced and energetic Controller to join our Finance department.

  • Our Controllers have a starting salary range of $80,000 – S100,000 per annum based on experience and an assessment during the interview stage. Increases are then reviewed throughout employment.

The Controller will contribute to the overall efficient operations of the Finance department by maintaining the general ledger and month end close cycle, oversee the Costing functions and managing the AP and AR functions (including supervising of staff in those positions) for the Marine Group. This entails consolidation and bank reporting. In addition, this role will manage internal control and compliance with standards within the AdvanTec framework. The role also comprises of assisting the Director of Finance with various project in accordance to the company plans and objectives.


Essential Functions for this Role are:

  • Assist in the development, implementation, and management of financial strategies
  • Support corporate finance for jurisdictional requirements
  • Organize and structure the functions in accounting per deliverables
  • Review goals and objectives of team members and perform review per company requirements
  • Assess training needs of individual team members and define a career path for each
  • Responsible for the preparation of monthly financial statements
  • Project manage the month-end close process
  • Coordinating, preparing, and reviewing G/L account reconciliations
  • Review and recommend modifications to accounting systems and procedures
  • Facilitate the year-end close procedures
  • Partner with each department, define the needs and provide adequate support for analysis and decision making
  • Responsible for the general ledger including setting up new accounts and maintenance of the GL
  • Responsible for the preparation of monthly financial statements
  • Management of fixed assets & leases
  • Maintain intercompany balances including full reconciliations
  • Support corporate initiatives as required
  • Prepare weekly cash flow and recommend to Management with respect to cash management
  • Build and maintain variance analysis for the financial reporting package
  • Prepare executive summary for executives & shareholder
  • Lead and maintain internal control processes and documentation
  • Support business unit compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements
  • Ensure that record keeping meets the requirements of auditors and government agencies
  • Provides support during external audit including review of findings and recommendations
  • Prepare and coordinate treasury transactions including bank and internal reporting requirements
  • Planning of currency translation to minimize losses from currency fluctuation
  • Preparing the banking covenants monthly and recommend the Group Controller on important matters with relation to bank facilities
  • Payables – A/P Payment Entry
  • Accounts Receivables – A/P Invoice Entry, cash application
  • Financial Admin – Implementing, configuring financials; Using Report Writer Window, Budget Maintenance; Currency & Exchange Maintenance; Costing Tools
  • Ledger – Accounting Window; Cost Centers; General Journal Entry; Costing Utilities; Post Manufacturing Journal; Consolidation; Revaluation
  • Work in accordance with documented procedures and complete all applicable records


Experience, Qualifications, and Skills required

  • Degree in accounting or business administration or equivalent work experience and education
  • Recognized and current accounting designation
  • Business experience and 5+ years of experience in a manufacturing company
  • Additional accounting experience an asset
  • Strong interpersonal Skills
  • Demonstrate excellent communication (written and verbal) skills
  • Demonstrate an ability to work well in a team environment
  • Able to influence and motivate employees within the business unit/s while holding them accountable to commitments
  • Able to deal with difficult situations in a positive manner
