Canada’s National Ballet School is currently inviting applications for the contract role of Dishwasher through the Canada Summer Jobs Program.

Reporting to the Chef de Cuisine, the Dishwasher will support the Food Services Department by providing students and patrons of the Town Square Café with clean and sanitized utensils, plate ware, glassware, and equipment.


Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • supply of clean serving, table and flatware by loading, operating, and emptying the dishwasher machine and by storing items in the designated areas
  • and store pots and pans as required
  • kitchen at prescribed intervals or as required by sweeping and mopping floors, removing garbage, and breaking down boxes for disposal
  • and store all deliveries of supplies including pre-packaged and dry goods as well as produce and meat
  • food, supplies, and equipment from one kitchen to another
  • other duties as required to contribute to the team effort and achieve the objectives of the Food Services Department


Qualifications/Skills/Experience

  • Minimum 1 year experience in an institutional kitchen preferred;
  • Proficiency with operating and correctly using industrial dish machines; knowledge of how to wash dishes using the 3 compartment sink wash method;
  • Ability to follow instructions and general routines;
  • Basic communications skills;
  • Knowledge of health and safety procedures;
  • Good understanding of sanitation and cleanliness issues with respect to the service area and cafeteria.


As per the requirements of Canada Summer Jobs, applicants must be:

  • between 15 and 30 years of age at the beginning of the employment period;
  • a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under theImmigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment; and,
  • a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.

Successful candidates must supply Canada’s National Ballet School with a Police Check in accordance with the School’s Child Abuse/Sexual Abuse Prevention Policy; this will be coordinated through the Human Resources Department of NBS.
