Course: MEC 522 - Fluid Mechanics

Semester/Term: Spring 2024

Hours/Section: 3 hrs lecture group/ 1 section

Estimated Number of Students: +- 80 students

Course Calendar Description: Fluid Mechanics. Fluid Properties. Fluid Statics. Manometry. Forces on submerged planes. Fluid motion: velocity, acceleration. Continuity, energy and momentum equations. One dimensional flow in conduits. Dimensional analysis. Model testing.

A part-time hourly appointment / one semester is for less than 9 hours in any one semester. The normal full-time teaching workload in the Department is a maximum of 16 hours per week across the Fall and Winter terms.

TA/GA support is academically required to deliver this course/section. The successful applicant will be provided appropriate TA/GA support. Additionally, if eligible, they will receive 20% of the total extra student payment as outlined in Article 17 of the Unit 1 Collective Agreement.

Lecture Schedule: Wednesday 09:00 12:00 & Friday 09:00 12:00

Course delivery in Spring 2024 will be in-person.

Candidates hired for in-person courses will be required to carry out their teaching on campus.

Qualifications

1.All applicants must be in possession of a Masters degree in mechanical engineering or in a relevant discipline.

2.Applicant should have up-to-date knowledge in the specific fields/disciplines of relevance for the course in the position for which they apply.

3.Applicants should have good human-relations skills, including reliability, collegiality, professionalism, a respect for the rights of co-workers and students, and ability to meet commitment.

4.Membership in the P.E.O. and teaching experience is desired.
