Job Summary

The part-time Research Coordinator (0.4 FTE/15 hour/week) will work closely with Dr. Bouchard and other members of the Phase Lab team, including students, staff, and collaborators. They will provide administrative support to the Principal Investigator and assist with research administration of ongoing projects. Day to day activities will include preparing study materials for ethics approval, communicating with patient partners, leading participant recruitment and enrolment, leading data collection and management, organizing and attending team meetings, and assisting with knowledge translation activities. Due to the sensitive nature of our research, this Research Coordinator must understand and adhere to the ethics of confidentiality, sensitivity, and respect when communicating with all research participants.


Organizational Status
The Research Coordinator will be supervised by and report to the Principal Investigator, Dr. Katrina Bouchard, leading the projects. In accordance with the UBC hybrid work guidelines, the position will offer a flexible workplace environment that includes both remote work and onsite work at the Diamond Health Care Centre and Research Pavilion at Vancouver General Hospital.

Work Performed

The Research Coordinator will be responsible for the following tasks:

  • Read and synthesize literature

  • Prepare, write, submit, and revise materials for research ethics approval

  • Maintain excellent professional relationships with patient partners

  • Create electronic surveys using REDCap and UBC Survey Tool (Qualtrics)

  • Work collaboratively with members of the Phase Lab and multidisciplinary clinical team at BCCVH

  • Contribute to lab, study coordination, and research team meetings

  • Lead recruitment and participant enrolment

  • Lead data collection and management of survey data

  • Assist with tracking, processing, and analyzing survey data


Consequence of Error/Judgement
The Research Coordinator is required to conduct all research activities in an ethical manner and with adherence to the Tri-Council Policy Statement concerning Ethical Conduct for Research Involving Humans (TCPS-2). Any procedures or data recorded as part of this research must be accurate and must accurately reflect the work performed. Strict confidentiality of all study participants must be adhered to. All activities involving participants are accountable to the Research Coordinator, Principal Investigator, the Department Head, and the Research Coordinator’s governing professional organization (if applicable).

Supervision Received

Most aspects of work will be done independently, while other aspects will be done under the supervision of the Principal Investigator. The Research Coordinator will work closely with the Principal Investigator students (undergraduate, graduate, medical), staff, and collaborators in the Phase Lab and liaise with the Clinic Care Coordinator and multidisciplinary healthcare team at BCCVH as needed to support integration of research into clinic settings.

The Research Coordinator will attend weekly supervision meetings with the Principal Investigator, weekly Phase Lab meetings and study coordination meetings, and regular BCCVH research meetings, which will be held onsite at the Diamond Health Care Centre or virtually (on Zoom), depending on operational requirements.


Supervision Given

The are no direct supervision responsibilities; however, there may be an opportunity to distribute work and provide mentorship and training to undergraduate students, medical students, or research volunteers.



Minimum Qualifications
High school graduation, some additional training in a related field and a minimum two years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Successful applicants will have excellent organization, time management, and communication skills (written and oral). They will have an interest in women’s health research, be able to work on assigned task independently, and have excellent interpersonal skills that support teamwork and professional interactions with patients.

The Research Coordinator must successfully complete the Tri-Council Policy Statement (TCPS-2) online tutorial. Experience with Canva (design platform), MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), UBC Survey Tool (Qualtrics), SPSS, and Zoom is required. Experience with REDCap and Prolific Research would be an asset.
