**Research Assistant/ Coordinator**

This position will provide research assistance/coordination for the Equity in Palliative Care research program within Providence Healthcare.

This newly established research program aims to study the palliative care needs of patients with advanced disease who also experience structural vulnerabilities (including homelessness/unstable housing, substance use, mental illness, poverty, racism). The goal of the program is to improve patient-centered care for this patient population. The program is within the Division of Palliative Care, an interdepartmental division in the Department of Family Medicine and the Department of Medicine.

Anticipated activities in the term include: studies of the current status of delivery of palliative care for patients experiencing structural vulnerabilities; a scoping review of published literature; co-development of research priorities for the program with research users; development of research/funding proposals.

**WORK PERFORMED**
- Conduct literature reviews, including literature searching and retrieval, screening, and synthesis.
- Support the coordination of research projects, including administrative tasks associated with day-to-day operations of research activities and studies.
- Assist with qualitative research studies, including with recruitment, conducting interviews, review of transcripts, coding of transcripts, participating in thematic analysis.
- Coordination of study advisory groups, including scheduling and hosting meetings, meeting documentation and correspondence.
- Assist with knowledge dissemination, including preparing manuscripts for peer-review, presenting on activities and findings to a wide variety of audiences, including researchers, healthcare providers, and the public.
- Collaborate and share knowledge with other researchers, palliative teams, leaders and programs as required to support the development of collaborations and relationships needed to establish a successful research program.
- Other research duties as assigned.

**SUPERVISION RECEIVED**:
Under direct supervision of the Research Scholar, Equity in Palliative Care.

**SUPERVISION GIVEN**:
This position requires working both independently and in cooperation with other research partners, including physicians, nurses, allied health professionals, people with lived experience of structural vulnerabilities, and others. Expected to plan and complete work assignments with mínimal supervision after initial training.

**QUALIFICATIONS and SKILLS**:

- Required: Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline (health or social sciences)
- Preferred: Master’s degree in a relevant discipline
- Preferred: Experience in palliative care and/or providing care/support within the Downtown Eastside.
- Preferred: knowledge or experience of harm reduction and equity-oriented approaches to care and research.
- Required: Experience with research processes, particularly qualitative research.
- Required: Excellent interpersonal, organization and communication (written and oral) skills.
- Required: Must be able to work independently and be self-directed.
