What you’ll do Capilano University is a teaching-focused university based in North Vancouver, with diverse programming serving the Sunshine Coast and the Sea-to-Sky corridor. The Department of Geography invites applications for one Regular Full -Time Faculty to begin Sept 1, 2024. This position involves teaching 8 sections per academic year. We seek candidates whose teaching and professional interests and activities relate to our shared commitment to an academic model that embeds leadership skills, innovation, region integrated learning, and applied learning opportunities in authentic and interactive settings. Teaching approaches that promote engaging, inclusive, and active instructional methods are highly valued.

The successful candidate will have experience teaching and researching in the fields of GIS, climate change, climate science, and cartography. Experience with teaching lower-level and upper-level students, supporting student research, and implementing work-integrated learning experiences with community partners in their classes (eg through a CityStudio model) is also required. We operate on a collegial model, with shared decision-making and planning at the departmental level. We are committed to decolonizing methodologies and to embedding Indigenous knowledge in our courses through work with Knowledge Keepers and Elders. As part of regular teaching and non-teaching activities, the successful candidate will regularly engage in professional development and scholarly activities. What you’ll bring We are seeking candidates with demonstrated experience teaching at the post-secondary level. Preference will be given to candidates who hold a PhD in geography, environmental sciences or a closely related field, candidates with a Masters will be considered. Work experience should highlight excellence, innovation, creativity and leadership in the required areas of teaching. The candidate should be experienced with a range of teaching practices including work integrated learning, student portfolios, studio-learning, and region-integrated learning.
