ONA is seeking to hire a Disability/Wellness Specialist on our Human Resources Team in Toronto. Reporting to the Executive Lead, Human Resources, the successful candidate will provide strategic support to the Human Resources department in areas of Disability Management and Health, Safety & Wellness, to both union and non-union staff.

The successful candidate will be accountable for the following:

Claims Management, Safety, Health and Wellness

Manages Short-Term Disability (STD), Long-Term Disability (LTD) and Workplace Safety & Insurance Board (WSIB) claims and forwards appropriate forms for completion by all parties within appropriate timelines. Coordinates and schedules RTW meetings between all parties Liaises with our long-term disability (LTD) carrier to ensure smooth transitions for our employees through the entire process including RTW. Critically analyzes case files for other health related factors which may influence recovery time, early and safe return to work eligibility, and seeks further medical information if required Collaborate with workplace parties to resolve barriers to successful and sustainable accommodations and return to work plans Review job demands and identify suitable work while adhering to essential duties of the job Receives, reviews, and interprets medical information/reports used to help in the return to work process, seeks further clarification if required. Compares this information against acceptable guidelines Facilitates employee re-integration to the workplace through planning, implementing and coordinating return to work programs with Employee, Manager, Medical Team, Specialists (i.e. Ergonomists), WSIB Return To Work Specialist, and Unions (if applicable) Drafts, evaluates and revises the Transitional Modified Work Plan, as necessary and communicates regularly with the employee and manager to ensure it is progressing according to plan and are not open-ended (i.e. end-date), with consideration to Legislation, Policy, and Collective Agreements Monitors target dates for achievement of outcomes and/or requesting medical updates Assesses and interviews employees for pre-placement evaluations in the permanent accommodation process, requests and reviews medical information to substantiate the request. Reviews permanent accommodations on an annual basis. Arranges and facilitates RTW meetings with the employee, Manager and Union Representative, if applicable Conducts case file review to ensure efficiencies are met and sound decisions are made, decisions and processes are standardized, and best practice Assist with seeking second injury cost relief (SIEF), where appropriate, with WSIB to help reduce insurance claims cost to the organization Refer staff to paramedical services as appropriate Provides information on Wellness Programs to support staff wellbeing Resources Wellness education and offerings to staff Review cases and prepare summary for grievance meetings Prepare monthly reports to Executive Lead,HR Meet with Executive Lead, HR Business on a regular basis to discuss file updates and strategy moving forward Assists with completing WSIB forms, LTD forms and Appeals What we are looking for: The successful candidate will have a post-secondary certificate or diploma in Human Health Science, Occupational Health or related field Minimum five (5) years relevant claims management experience providing strategic and operational support in a team, preferably in a unionized environment Two (2) years Occupational Health experienced preferred Regulated Health Professional – (Occupational Health Nurse, Kinesiologist or Ergonomist) Preferred Demonstrated experience with health and wellness, leave-of-absence processes, WSIB claims and leading special projects Health and Safety Certification or in progress is required Strong working knowledge and understanding of health & safety laws, employment laws and industry trends relating to Human Resources & Health Wellness Effective change management & project management skills Demonstrated leadership providing team effectiveness Experience working with Human Capital System/HRIS. Knowledge of Ultimate Software is considered an asset Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office (including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) Detail orientated and organized with a high level of accuracy Ability to work well in a team environment Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication & time management skills The ability to multi-task, prioritize and manage multiple deadlines in a fast- paced environment CHRP or CHRL considered an The successful candidate must be able to travel, possess a valid driver’s license and have access to an automobile for business use.
