GFL Environmental is looking to hire a driven Operations Manager to join our growing team in Barrie, ON

Reporting to the District Manager or designate, the Operations Manager will assist in the planning, coordinating and directing of day-to-day waste transfer, receiving and processing activities. This position will also support effective communications, staff engagement & participation, project review and ensure a safe working environment.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Related to General Operations

He/she will be responsible for:

The oversight and management of all plant operations. Ensuring cooperation and communication between departments to enhance operations without disruption. Assessment and development of programs to correct operational inefficiencies/difficulties. Support existing Key Performance Indicators to identify operational inefficiencies and/or difficulties. Assist planning and scheduling of work for all facility operations to ensure efficiencies, as required.  Ensure the site is compliant with site ECA’s and CBA Ensure accuracy of the facility’s inventory management system. Ensure site is compliant for all other regulatory body governing requirements. Work with sales and call centre for customer inquiries regarding billing/invoicing. Assist direct reports to improve technical knowledge and capabilities. The development, implementation, and maintenance of programs and procedures for packaging, treatment, storage, transportation, and disposal of wastes including hazardous, non-hazardous, liquid and other chemical/special waste; Attending facility audits, as required. Support Budget/forecasting as required. Oversee and support facility’s Administration staff. Other tasks as assigned.

Related to Health & Safety

Supporting and ensuring all H&S policies and procedures are adhered to by management and staff. Support Training & orientation of new employees. Assisting in employee conflict/issue resolution, as required. Assist as needed in reporting and investigating all near misses/incidents/accidents resulting in personal injury and or property damage. Assisting in implementation of any corrective action as the result of incidents.

Requirements

Post-secondary education (College Diploma or University Education) Minimum of 3 years’ experience in the environmental waste management industry with focus on industrial liquid waste industry; Working knowledge of TDGA, O. Reg. 347 and Ontario Health and Safety Act; Competent computer skills (MS Windows and Office); Effective verbal and written communicator; Must be motivated, able to multi-task, and work effectively in a team environment; Must be safety conscious and detail oriented; Possess organizational and people management skills in a large team environment; Ability to design and execute work & project plans; Valid G License with good driver abstract/CVOR abstract; Offers of employment are conditional upon successful completion of required medical, physical, drug and alcohol testing;
