2. About the Job

-          The Coalition is seeking an inspiring, highly motivated Level Artist. In this position, you will be expected to partner with other members of the Level Art Team, the Level Design Team, and other art disciplines to help make the artistic vision set out by art direction a reality. We are looking for a candidate that has shipped at least one title delivering visually stunning, high-quality levels and looking for a great opportunity to grow with our team.

 

3. Summary of the Opportunity

-          Client Overview: The Coalition is a Microsoft first-party development studio located in Vancouver, Canada. Our objective is to forge the future of the Gears of War franchise and push the limits of Microsoft's entertainment platforms and devices.

-          Role Summary: As a Level Artist, you will collaborate with various teams to produce high-quality artwork and maintain visual quality, consistency, and level performance. You will play a crucial role in bringing the artistic vision to life and ensuring playable and performant levels.

 

4. Key Responsibilities

-          Uphold the values of The Coalition Art Team and support building a creative, positive, and inclusive culture for the studio and Level Art Team.

-          Produce high-quality environment and level artwork, staying up to date with current art creation workflows and industry trends.

-          Collaborate with the Art Leads and Level Art team to support the artistic vision, maintaining visual quality, consistency, and level performance.

-          Partner with the Level Design Team to solve art and design challenges, ensuring levels are playable and performant.

-          Work closely with the Environment Art Team, providing detailed breakout sheets and communicating environment set requirements.

-          Communicate effectively with the Production Team and Art Leads, keeping them informed of any dependencies, blockers, and cross-department challenges.

 

5. Experience and Qualifications

-          MUST-Have Skills and Qualifications:

-          A portfolio with examples of high-quality environment and level artwork.

-          3+ years of environment/level art experience with at least one shipped title.

-          Self-motivated and strong time management skills.

-          Strong visual and technical understanding of level creation methods using Unreal Engine or similar game engine.

-          Strong working knowledge of Maya (preferred) or similar 3D modeling software, Substance, Photoshop, and Z-brush.

 

-Preferred Skills and Qualifications:

   - Experience working in AAA games or console games.
