Springboard Fellowship at Hillel British Columbia

Found in: Talent CA C2 - 1 week ago

Vancouver, Canada Jewish Federation Full time

Role Overview

Make your mark on Jewish student life by joining Hille BC as the Ezra Springboard Fellow. You will build one-on-one relationships with students, plan and execute engaging events and programs around campus, and help inspire students to make a commitment to Jewish life. Located at the heart of the UBC campus and with spaces provided to serve on our satellite campuses, we at Hillel BC are delighted to be looking for the next Ezra Springboard Fellow to guide our students to be the best leaders in the Vancouver Jewish Community.

As a Fellow in the Ezra track at our campus Hillel, you'll step into a dynamic role that blends deep passion for Jewish wisdom, history, and culture with a commitment to shaping vibrant Jewish student life. Here, you'll find a warm and inclusive community where your enthusiasm for sharing Jewish knowledge will thrive. Your primary focus will be on nurturing a rich and engaging environment for Jewish students, leveraging your expertise in pedagogy and Jewish teaching methodologies. Your ambition extends beyond merely imparting knowledge; you aspire to cultivate a sense of belonging and connection among students through innovative programming and meaningful interactions. Whether you're leading the Jewish Learning Fellowship, crafting inventive initiatives to explore Jewish customs and values, or spearheading events that showcase the diversity of Jewish life, your role is integral to the fabric of our Hillel campus. By empowering students to deepen their understanding of Judaism and fostering a vibrant Jewish community, you play a pivotal role in fulfilling Hillel's overarching mission to enrich student life and nurture a sense of identity and belonging on campus. You'll wake up each day (or at least most) and be genuinely excited and enthusiastic about creating an inviting place that inspires students to explore, experience, and create vibrant Jewish lives. This is so much more than your average 9-to-5.

About The Springboard Fellowship

The Springboard Fellowship is a paid, two-year fellowship that brings recent college grads with raw talent, passion, and skills needed to reimagine and redesign Jewish student life to college campuses across North America.

Trained in Relationship-Based Engagement, Human-Centered Design, and other entrepreneurial frameworks, you will be exposed to the most successful initiatives from across the Hillel movement. Fellows will work with students to imagine, create, and refine experiences for Jewish life that dramatically impact student engagement, efficiently and strategically apply and scale successful initiatives from across the movement, and give birth to cutting-edge ideas that have the potential to transform how Hillel and creates inclusive spaces for #AllKindsOfJewish.

We’re looking for people who embrace challenges, take risks, fail, and learn from the past, while maintaining their passion and sense of humor. Extensive Jewish education is not necessary — just an interest in creating a vibrant Jewish community, a commitment to learning, and the desire to make a difference in the lives of students.

What You’ll Do

GOALS:

Establish a Student Leadership Team on each satellite campus by the end of the first academic year.
Successfully execute programming for key Jewish holidays on satellite campuses, aiming for broad student participation.
Increase the overall number of programs and depth of student interaction on the satellite campuses, demonstrating growth in engagement metrics by the year's end.
WHAT YOU’LL DO:

Promote and facilitate engaging activities on satellite campuses, including Hot Lunches, Shabbat dinners, and holiday celebrations, aiming to create inclusive and vibrant gatherings that attract a wide audience of students.
Build and track at least 180 unique relationships per year on satellite campuses, engaging in one-on-one interactions with both Jewish and non-Jewish students, to foster a sense of community and belonging.
Exhibit a strong passion for developing a pluralistic Jewish community on satellite campuses, creating meaningful Jewish experiences, and initiating engaging conversations about Jewish life and values.
Participate in ongoing Jewish learning and professional growth, lead educational opportunities related to Israel, and facilitate discussions on Israel education specifically tailored for the satellite campus environments.
Prepare for and respond effectively to anti-Israel and antisemitic incidents on satellite campuses, collaborating closely with the Campus Director and the Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs (CIJA) to maintain a supportive and safe environment for all students.
Stay informed about campus politics on satellite campuses, including relevant laws, bylaws, and election processes, to effectively support and guide student advocacy efforts in these specific environments.
Support and empower students on satellite campuses in their advocacy objectives, including involvement in political campaigns and referendums, to amplify their voices and impact both on their specific campuses and in the wider community.
