Job Summary

The Pharmacy Automation Lead plays a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of all automation equipment and software utilized in the storage, preparation, and distribution of medications within a pharmacy setting. This position serves as the primary point of contact for troubleshooting, maintenance, and optimization of existing systems while also facilitating the integration of new automation technologies.

Primary Responsibilities

•Provide technical support in all pharmacy automation involved in medication storage and distribution, which may include but not limited to: robotics, high speed packager, Automated Dispensing Units (ADU), medication carousels, unit dose liquid packagers, fridge and freezer temperature monitoring, labeling software
•Engagement and liaison with field service technicians for maintenance and repairs
•Creation and maintenance of a catalog for automation spare parts, including returned/exchanged parts
•Building and maintaining dictionaries In automation software for product catalogue, user accounts, and barcode information
•Development of education material related to automation equipment
•Development and maintenance of a training structure and recertification process for end users and super users
•Development, implementation, and maintenance of policies and procedures for pharmacy automation
•Respond to requests from end users
•Generate and analyze inventory reports on an annual basis at minimum, and liaise with the unit pharmacist to make stock adjustments as required (ie. PAR/Max levels, removal/addition of drugs, etc)
•Creating user accounts and maintenance of prescriber information in automation software
•Prepare inventory usage data as requested to support formulary management
•Provide user usage data as requested by pharmacy management, unit manager, or human resources
•Assist in the investigation and resolution of Safepoint incidents and controlled substance discrepancies as required
•Participate in reassignment of medications related to backorder/recalls/shortages

Qualifications

•Licensed by OCP, education obtained from an accredited Pharmacy technician program (CCAPP accredited = Canadian Council for Accreditation of Pharmacy Programs).
•5 years experience as a Registered Pharmacy Technician in a hospital
•3 years experience working with Meditech preferred
•3 years experience working with ConnectRx Database preferred
•Knowledge on integration between electronic medical record, automated dispensing units, pharmacy automation (ie. Medication carousels, high speed packagers, robotics)
•Knowledge of controlled substance discrepancy investigations and their reporting requirements
•Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams
•Ability to independently write and review policies and procedures
•Critical thinking skills in troubleshooting technical problems and performing data analysis or investigations
•Project management skills
•Effective teaching skills and interpersonal communication skills

As a condition of employment, you are required to submit proof of COVID-19 vaccination to the Hospital’s Occupational Health and Safety department. Successful candidates will be required to submit proof of COVID-19 vaccination (two doses) from the Ontario Ministry of Health website or other authorized source directly to the Occupational Health and Safety department.
