Position Overview
The Lead Pharmacy Automation Specialist plays a crucial role in managing the functionality of automated systems and software utilized in the storage, preparation, and distribution of medications within the pharmacy environment. This position encompasses the maintenance, troubleshooting, and enhancement of current systems, along with the integration of innovative automation solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver technical assistance for pharmacy automation technologies, including robotics, Automated Dispensing Units, and medication carousels.
- Collaborate with service technicians for system maintenance and repairs.
- Maintain an inventory of automation spare parts and develop software dictionaries.
- Create educational resources and training programs for pharmacy staff.
- Draft and revise policies and procedures related to pharmacy automation.
- Evaluate inventory reports and support stock management efforts.
- Compile usage data for formulary oversight and reporting.
- Assist in the investigation of discrepancies and incidents.
- Engage in medication reallocation processes due to shortages or recalls.
Required Qualifications
- Licensed by the Ontario College of Pharmacists with credentials from an accredited pharmacy technician program.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience as a Registered Pharmacy Technician in a clinical setting.
- Familiarity with Meditech and ConnectRx Database.
- Understanding of electronic medical records integration and pharmacy automation systems.
- Experience with controlled substance investigations and reporting.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Strong skills in policy writing, technical troubleshooting, and project management.
- Excellent interpersonal and instructional abilities.
