Position Overview

An exciting opportunity exists to join the City of Kamloops' Emergency Support Services (ESS) team As the ESS Coordinator – Training Opportunity, you'll lead the ESS program and work closely with the Emergency Operations Centre. We're seeking a motivated individual with a knack for recruiting and training volunteers, developing training packages, and managing budgets. The successful candidate must have the following qualifications:

  1. Minimum two years’ experience in the emergency preparedness, response, or recovery sector.
  2. Minimum one years’ previous supervisory experience.
  3. Minimum one year’s experience within the past three years in crisis management or working with people in vulnerable situations.
  4. Proficient in intermediate Word and intermediate Excel, as demonstrated through testing. A 70% pass rate is required.
  5. Ability to obtain the following Emergency Support Services training courses within 12 months:
    • Introduction to Emergency Support Services (EMRG-1600),
    • Introduction to Reception Centres (EMRG-1610),
    • Registration and Referrals (EMRG-1615),
    • ERA Tool for Responders (EMRG-1620),
    • ESS Director Course (EMRG-1681) 
  6. Valid BC Driver’s Licence - Class 5.
     

Awarding of Training Opportunity:
To be successful for this training opportunity, senior applicants must meet the above requirements. Applicants are able to participate in a maximum of three training opportunities within the Department.

On-the-Job Experience and Training:
The most senior qualified candidate for this opportunity will be gaining experience towards becoming a fully qualified Emergency Support Services Coordinator. The exact length of the training opportunity may vary based on the previous education and experience of the successful candidate and the length of the position but will be a maximum of 2 years.

Pay Rate:
The successful applicant for this training opportunity will receive the pay rate of Pay Grade 10 (inside), $35.55 per hour to start. After successful completion of the Training Opportunity term, the incumbent will move to a Pay Grade 11 (inside) as a fully qualified Emergency Support Services Coordinator.

Time Commitment to the Position:
The successful candidate will be required to remain in the Emergency Support Services Coordinator position for a minimum of the amount of time it took the candidate to become fully qualified (if applicable).

Please note that the pay grade is under review and is subject to agreement between the employer and the Union.
