The Knowledge Translation and Exchange Specialist executes tasks related to knowledge translation and exchange across many communications modalities: print, multimedia, infographics, web pages, and social media. The Knowledge Translation and Exchange Specialist works as part of a central BCCDC KT team to support centre-wide and service line activities, including the development of KT capacity building and training materials. The Knowledge Translation and Exchange Specialist is responsible for providing expertise to develop knowledge translation products for BCCDC service lines, decision makers and policy makers and works within project teams to execute knowledge translation in accordance with the knowledge translation, user engagement and dissemination frameworks developed at the BCCDC. The Knowledge Translation and Exchange Specialist uses project management methodologies to track and execute work as priorities arise.

This role works collaboratively with BCCDC partners and builds consensus for effective knowledge translation/exchange, dissemination and communications implementation within the centre. 

What you’ll do

Work collaboratively with service line staff and leaders across the BCCDC to understand KT needs, develop KT frameworks, and develop KT products to support their public health practice. Conduct evidence reviews and jurisdictional scans, analyze research, identify key messages, and translate findings into accessible information and products for the target audience. Position evidence so that relevant partners and decision-makers can take action. Author, co-author, edit and produce diverse communications such as web-based content for the BCCDC website, social media messaging, infographics, reports, scientific abstracts, and presentations. Target audiences include internal staff, citizens community partners and decision makers, and the public, government, health authorities, non-governmental organizations, Indigenous communities, community-based organizations, and the private sector. Work with other Knowledge Translation team members, visual content designers and communications staff to ensure overall quality, consistency, and effectiveness of complex communication materials. Understand basic statistical analysis, can interpret quantitative and qualitative data, identify significant results and/or themes, draw conclusions and develops evidence based and wise practice products and makes evidence-based recommendations. Works to increase KT capacity within BCCDC service line staff by advising and assisting with effective knowledge translation techniques and methodologies. Informs the development and implementation of knowledge translation plans for service lines at the BCCDC. Incorporates indigenous perspectives and approaches to knowledge translation and exchange into planning and framework development.

What you bring

A level of education, training, and experience equivalent to Master’s Degree in a discipline related to health science, behavior science, healthcare or public health. Five (5) years of recent, related experience.

You will also have:

Experience conducting knowledge translation work in a public health or government setting is an asset. Exceptional skills in working collaboratively with partners and understanding different perspectives Strong understanding of topics of health equity and the social determinants of health and how to apply these to knowledge translation and exchange products. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with non-specialist audiences, both verbally and in writing. Strong teaching, facilitation and public speaking skills are an asset Exceptional ability to navigate and research information. Experience interacting professionally with internal, external, and multiple stakeholders. Experience working with government, including writing policy briefs or internal communications. Commitment to develop knowledge and understanding of legislative obligations and provincial commitments found in the foundational documents – including Truth & Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action (2015), In Plain Sight (2020), BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019), United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP), Reclaiming Power and Place Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women & Girls Calls for Justice (2019), the Declaration Act Action Plan and Remembering Keegan: A First Nations Case Study – and how they intersect across the health care system. Commitment to upholding the shared responsibility of creating lasting and meaningful reconciliation in Canada as per TRC (2015) and BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019). As a strong asset for consideration, we are looking for our successful candidate to have: Knowledge of social, economic, political and historical realities of settler colonialism on Indigenous Peoples and familiarity with addressing Indigenous-specific anti-racism, anti-racism and Indigenous Cultural Safety and foundational documents and legislative commitments (The Declaration Act, the Declaration Action Plan, TRC, IPS, Remembering Keegan, etc.).
