What you’ll do
Work collaboratively with service line staff and leaders across the BCCDC to understand Indigenous Knowledge Translation (KT) specialist needs, develop KT frameworks, and develop KT products to support Indigenous public health practice. Conduct evidence reviews and jurisdictional scans, analyze research, identify key messages, and translate findings into accessible information and products for the target audience. Position evidence so that relevant partners and decision-makers can take action. Author, co-author, edit and produce diverse communications such as web-based content for the BCCDC website, social media messaging, infographics, reports, scientific abstracts, and presentations. Target audiences include internal staff, citizens community partners and decision makers, and the public, government, health authorities, non-governmental organizations, Indigenous communities, community-based organizations, and the private sector. Work with other Knowledge Translation team members, visual content designers and communications staff to ensure overall quality, consistency, and effectiveness of complex communication materials. Create and lead skill development workshops on the science of KT and KT frameworks as required Work to increase KT capacity within BCCDC service line staff by advising and assisting with effective knowledge translation techniques and methodologies. Informs the development and implementation of knowledge translation plans for Indigenous KT work at BCCDC. Incorporates Indigenous perspectives and approaches to knowledge translation and exchange into planning and framework development. Provide expert advice on the positioning of messages and the dissemination of final reports or resources Collaborate with internal and external partners with BCCDC to ensure knowledge products support collective action for change Complete projects on time by using project management methodology, including work plans, monitoring progress and reporting Use a demonstrated understanding of the publics percepeptions, concerns and beliefs and advises on the use of multiple communication techniques and channels to communicate public health risk messages. Communication channels might include but are not limited to websites/webpages, media and social media as well as communicaty engagement. Participates in research across the BCCDC and stays knowledgeable on KT practices and principles for public health in Canada and other jurisdications.What you bring
A level of education, training, and lived experience equivalent to Master’s Degree in a discipline related to health science, behavioral science, healthcare or public health. Five (5) years of recent, related experience.You will also have:
Demonstrated knowledge of Canadian colonial impacts on Indigenous people in social and health contexts, supported by significant knowledge of Canadian and Indigenous ideologies Knowledge and appreciation of the unique history, cultures and rights of Indigenous Peoples in Canada is required Lived experience with Indigenous populations and demonstrated extensive knowledge of Indigenous health care needs, services and issues as well as knowledge of culture, protocols, traditions and ideology of Indigenous people and organisations in British Columbia is an asset. Experience or working knowledge of health systems and policy, organisational change, anti-Indigenous racism, resistance to change, population health, illness prevention, health promotion, knowledge exchange and change management. Experience interacting professionally with internal, external, and multiple stakeholders. Experience working with government, including writing policy briefs or internal communications. Superior level of accuracy, initiative, attention to detail and independant error checking Superior ability to work independently and as a team member Demonstrated knowledge and ability to utilise relevant technology, including a variety of computerised software packages such as word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, database applications and internet applications at an advanced level. Commitment to develop knowledge and understanding of legislative obligations and provincial commitments found in the foundational documents – including Truth & Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action (2015), In Plain Sight (2020), BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019), United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP), Reclaiming Power and Place Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women & Girls Calls for Justice (2019), the Declaration Act Action Plan and Remembering Keegan: A First Nations Case Study – and how they intersect across the health care system. Commitment to upholding the shared responsibility of creating lasting and meaningful reconciliation in Canada as per TRC (2015) and BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019).
