Job Summary

The Research/Knowledge Translation Coordinator works in collaboration with the principal investigator and team to support administration of research activities, and knowledge translation and mobilization activities.

The Coordinator will support operations of a grant-funded project focused on training of health professionals in the field of eating disorders, including overseeing research ethics approvals, privacy impact approvals, and other research administration, including applications for grant funding for related project. The Coordinator will also support the translation and implementation of research through a variety of communications channels (e.g., paper-based, multi-media). The position works with multiple stakeholders to identify knowledge needs and translate these needs into deliverables that are relevant for a variety of stakeholder groups, including individuals with lived experience and clinicians. The Coordinator will contribute to the development of knowledge translation materials, and will support the planning and delivery of education and training sessions relating to eating disorders and team activities. The Coordinator will also engage with a national Evidence Support and Knowledge Mobilization Hub to ensure knowledge users’ rapid access to evidence from the project.


Organizational Status
The Coordinator will report to the Principal Investigator of the grant-funded project. This position will also work and interact with staff, clinicians, researchers, and individuals with lived experience who are part of the grant-funded team.

Work Performed

  • Meets with partners on the project (e.g., community mental health supports) to understand gaps in resources for youth/families relating to eating disorders.

  • Develops operating procedures for the Provincial Eating Disorders Training Hub implementation research and makes recommendation on workflow improvements in relation to processes for recruitment of health professionals, youth and families for research studies

  • Oversees the progress of the project and participates in research activities related to implementation science

  • Ensures processes are in line with REB-approved approaches

  • Develops plans for follow-up in the event of any adverse/unanticipated outcomes

  • Works with affiliated team members/collaborators to identify the process for inviting families who are seen in community programs outside of BC Children’s Hospital

  • Ensures external processes (e.g., Ministry of Child and Family Development approvals) are followed.

  • Writes reports and assists in writing ethics and grant applications

  • Supervises, schedules, and trains staff, and provides input on staff performance

  • Develops, plans and coordinates knowledge translation, exchange, and mobilization activities in collaboration with the Principal Investigator and grant-funded team members and partners

  • Measures aspects of the implementation of the training hub

  • Participates in the development and dissemination of research findings across multiple mediums (e.g., digital, written, visual). Writes content for a project newsletter and other products related to team grant activities.

  • Participates in regular meetings with the grant leadership team and associated committees.

  • Performs other related duties as required.


Consequence of Error/Judgement

The PI and grant team rely on maintaining strong working relationships with clinicians, researchers, and individuals with lived experience. Therefore professionalism and confidentiality are of the utmost importance.

This position requires a high level of sensitivity, sound judgement, and good decision-making skills. The incumbent is required to be independently motivated and have the ability to take initiative to determine work processes and procedures, identify problems, and coordinate the work of the cluster. Errors or poor judgement will jeopardize the integrity of the data, future funding opportunities, and hold the potential to harm research participants and the outcome of the research studies.


Supervision Received
Works under minimal supervision, with support from the Principal Investigator.

Supervision Given
Provides training and supervision to research staff at lower classifications, and provides support with performance evaluation.

Minimum Qualifications
Completion of a university degree in a relevant discipline or technical program and a minimum four years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Some positions may require a graduate degree.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Preference for individuals who have completed some graduate-level coursework in clinical psychology, health sciences, research methodology, or a relevant health care discipline.

  • Experience working with health topics including eating disorders and/or other mental health diagnoses an asset.

  • Recent, relevant experience in knowledge translation, research administration is preferred.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including report writing and presentation skills. Expertise in plain-language writing and proficiency in a second language are assets.

  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and within a team environment.

  • Knowledge of and ability to evaluate of knowledge exchange products.

  • Demonstrated ability to develop knowledge products such as infographics, newsletters, fact sheets, web content, lay summaries, presentations and/or video stories.

  • Experience with planning knowledge translation events

  • Ability to apply decision-making and analytical skills.

  • Ability to prioritize, and to plan, coordinate, and organize work.
