Reporting to PICNet's Network Director, the Lead, Research and Knowledge Translation provides professional expertise in the areas of epidemiologic, health services research and knowledge translation as it relates to infection prevention and control (IPAC).

Works in close partnership with the supervisor, colleagues and collaborators, as well as other experts both internal and external to PHSA, including health authorities and Ministry of Health.


The Lead, Research and Knowledge Translation plans and conducts research and knowledge translation projects, educates stakeholders about research methodologies and interpretation, and writes and edits scientific manuscripts, reports, and other documents.


What you will have:

  • Collaborates in the planning, design, and development of a framework for research, scientific analysis and knowledge translation to achieve PICNet goals.
  • Contributes expertise to development of projects including methodologies, approaches, and models.
  • Develops, coordinates, leads and conducts research and knowledge translation projects for IPAC in consultation with PICNet team.
  • Undertakes critical appraisals of epidemiological, statistical and scientific evidence and clinical research to conduct risk assessment, identify knowledge gaps, and validate data integrity.
  • Synthesizes and promotes the utilization of research findings through knowledge translation strategies.
  • Educates PICNet team and stakeholders about research methodologies and interpretation of relevant research studies.
  • Develops, writes, coordinates and edits scientific manuscripts, reports and other knowledge translation products (e.g., evidence reviews, guidelines).
  • Participates in PICNet initiatives, chairs and participates in both internal and external meetings as appropriate, and establishes consultation networks as appropriate.

What you bring:

  • A level of education, training, and experience equivalent to a Masters Degree in Epidemiology, Public or Population Health, Health Services Research or related discipline, PhD preferred; and a minimum of five (5) years' related experience in a research environment.
  • Demonstrated experience working in the health care system and conducting research. Clinical and IPAC experience is considered an asset.

You will also have:

  • Demonstrated ability to conduct literature reviews and critical appraisals of epidemiological, statistical and scientific evidence and clinical research (e.g., expertise in using established tools/templates to assess quality of evidence).
  • Demonstrated ability to write for a wide range of audiences (e.g., researchers, clinicians, the public).
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills. Ability to work well and lead collaborative interdisciplinary teams.
  • Ability to provide direction and coordination within a team while working independently.
  • Demonstrated critical thinking and problemsolving skills, including the ability to comprehend complex issues and related data/information and present information in concise and meaningful ways.
  • Awareness of and commitment to learning and understanding the Truth & Reconciliation Commission's 94 Calls to Action (2015), In Plain Sight Report (2020), BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019), and other related reports.
  • Commitment to upholding the shared responsibility of creating lasting and meaningful reconciliation in Canada as per TRC and BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act
