Reporting to the Program Director or Designate, the Global Health Research Project Lead contributes to the success of the Institute for Global Health by assisting in the development and monitoring of this pilot program to support various global health research projects in order to enhance quality improvement, research, education, and partnership activities. The Global Health Research Project Lead supports the development effectiveness of policies and procedures for engagement in global health research, and engages with nurses and allied health professionals across BC Children’s and Women’s Hospital in global health through regular events, communications and interest groups. The Global Health Research Project Lead is responsible for reviewing research protocol and study design with Study Investigator(s). Completes case report forms, charts and other study documentation. Supports department/program personnel to ensure study requirements are met.


What you’ll do

Provides coordination and administrative support to the Institute for Global Health team to develop, review and execute a project plan that builds a community of practice in global health for nurses and allied health at BC Children’s and Women’s Hospital. Engages with health professionals across campus in global health through regular meetings, events, communications and interest groups. Under the supervision of study investigators, reviews research protocol and study design. Reviews and explains the purpose of the study, explains consent forms to study participants and research assistants. Supports the preparation of study documents including Research Ethics Board submissions and correspondence, and required regulatory documents as necessary. Writes and prepares manuscripts for submission to peer reviewed journals, grant submissions, publications, abstracts and posters. Contributes to literature reviews and syntheses With support from lead researchers, collects, organizes, preprocesses data, conducts research analyses, reviews data quality, and interprets study results. Supports the development of partnerships and collaborations with healthcare workers in global health research and/or quality improvement activities by collegially sharing information and providing guidance around project specific activities or research methods as needed by the global health project.

What you bring

A Bachelor’s degree in an allied health discipline. Minimum of one (1) year recent related experience in a health care setting working with a wide range of service providers.

You also have:

Demonstrated interest in clinical research. Demonstrated relevant clinical research knowledge. Knowledge of global children’s and/or women’s health. Knowledge of research process and methodology. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Strong leadership and organizational skills. Commitment to develop knowledge and understanding of legislative obligations and provincial commitments found in the foundational documents – including Truth & Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action (2015), In Plain Sight (2020), BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019), United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP), Reclaiming Power and Place Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women & Girls Calls for Justice (2019), the Declaration Act Action Plan and Remembering Keegan: A First Nations Case Study – and how they intersect across the health care system. Commitment to upholding the shared responsibility of creating lasting and meaningful reconciliation in Canada as per TRC (2015) and BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019). As a strong asset for consideration, we are looking for our successful candidate to have: Knowledge of social, economic, political and historical realities of settler colonialism on Indigenous Peoples and familiarity with addressing Indigenous-specific anti-racism, anti-racism and Indigenous Cultural Safety and foundational documents and legislative commitments (The Declaration Act, the Declaration Action Plan, TRC, IPS, Remembering Keegan, etc.).
