About the Role:

The Assistant Controller will oversee and support the monthly and quarterly financial close processes, ensuring the accuracy of financial statements, profitability reports, and cost analyses. They will review and value inventory, assist with daily invoicing, and provide detailed reports to management for pricing and profitability decisions. Additionally, the role involves defining manufacturing costs, supporting production and inventory control, and participating in financial audits. The Assistant Controller will also play a key role in the annual planning and forecasting process, ensuring compliance with SOX requirements, and preparing tax reports for multiple jurisdictions, all while promoting a safe and ethical work environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Active involvement in and oversight of the monthly and quarterly close process.
  • Prepare month-end financial statements, including actuals, forecast summaries, profitability reports, capital sales, and cost of sales reports.
  • Analyze inventory on hand and calculate quarterly reserve on excess inventory.
  • Review parts and finished goods inventory, as well as used and rental equipment to ensure appropriate valuation.
  • Ensure appropriate costing of monthly capital sales for proper gross margin recognition.
  • Assist with daily invoicing requirements and other day-to-day ad hoc accounting issues.
  • Provide management with reports and analysis to assist with pricing and profitability decisions.
  • Conduct analysis of various financial reports to identify discrepancies and trends.
  • Cost Accounting/Inventory and Cost of Sales:
  • Define and accumulate costs on segments of manufacturing activity or cost centers.
  • Assist Production/Inventory Control in establishing internal control procedures and an appropriate audit trail for inventory valuation and income determination.
  • Assist in preparing and analyzing costing for new or proposed products or services.
  • Planning:
  • Actively support the Annual Planning and Forecasting Process, helping plan, communicate, and execute the annual plan and updates with the Controller.
  • Compliance:
  • Participate in financial and procedural audits relative to SOX requirements.
  • Assist in preparing costing reports for products/services and analyzing them.
  • Prepare and submit sales tax reports for multiple jurisdictions.
  • Assist in preparing all tax reports, including annual income tax packages and transfer pricing documentation for both Canada and the United States.
  • Identify areas for efficiency within the department.
  • Adhere to company standards regarding ethics, safety, quality/ISO, and environmental matters.
  • Support internal and external auditors as required.

NATURE OF WORK:

  • The Assistant Controller works under the direction of the Controller and interacts closely with all departments daily.
  • Assist in prioritizing work for the accounting staff.
  • Position is primarily office-based.



  • Post-secondary education in a business-related discipline.
  • A completed or in the process of obtaining a CPA designation.
  • 3+ years of experience in financial reporting and analysis, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
