PositionSummary:

Reporting to the Manager Student Life, theCoordinator, Orientation and Transition Programs main responsibility is theplanning and development, implementation and delivery, and evaluation ofcollege wide in house and online student orientation programming. Within theframework of skill development, the Coordinator will lead the successfulonboarding of new students and their successful transitioning through the firstsix weeks of studies.

Key Responsibilities:

With the support of and under the direction of the Manager, the incumbent is responsible for coordinating the process of planning, implementation, and evaluation of all aspects of Orientation for all incoming students. This includes all intakes (Fall, Winter and Spring), at all three campuses.
The Orientation Program at George Brown College includes both a pre-orientation (Up and Running), an Online Orientation, and post orientation programming (Week 3 Service Fairs). In collaboration with the Manager, the Coordinator is responsible for the development and implementation of all aspects of Orientation programs.
Under the direction of the Manager, the Coordinator will assist in the design, facilitation and resource development for students at points of student transition into, during and at the end of their college experience. This includes but is not limited to student constituents such as International, First Generation, and mature students.
Assists in program development and assessment which includes but is not limited to best practice research, active collaboration with campus partners to identify transition programming opportunities and facilitate programming within each identified Transition Program opportunity.
Assists the Manager in the administration of an assessment, providing and communicating a report which includes but is not limited to academic school data reports, survey reports and Online Orientation reports.
Supports oversight to student staff and day to day operations of the Welcome and Information Desk including the Locker Rental Service.
Provides support to Student Life events beyond orientation and transition programming. The Coordinator will be expected to contribute to other areas of Student Life as appropriate and broader college wide initiatives when relevant. This can include but is not limited to committees, working groups and special events.
Other duties as assigned.

Educational andExperience Requirements:

Three-year diploma/degree or equivalent from a recognized post-secondary institution in Education, Community Services, Public Relations, Event Planning.
Courses in Student Affairs, Student Development Theory, Graphic Design, and Communications an asset.
Minimum five (5) years of direct experience and knowledge of best practices in orientation and transition programs.
Must have demonstrated ability and proven success within the field of student services at a post-secondary institution for a minimum of three years.
Experience in developing, implementing and evaluating student programs and training modules is an asset.
Experience developing marketing campaigns that involve the use of new media critical.
Experience in establishing strong and collaborative partnerships and working with students and student groups from diverse backgrounds.
Experience coordinating and directly supervising student staff, volunteers and placement students.
Research and evaluation experience.

Skills and Attributes:

Demonstrated effectiveness in event planning.
Excellent public speaking and presentation skills required.
Must demonstrate excellent problem solving, conflict resolution, and team building skills.
Ability to lift between 20 kg or 44 lbs (, boxes for orientation material, various information booklet, etc.).
Able to travel between campuses and support student staff at all campuses on a weekly basis.
Demonstrated commitment to uphold the College’spriorities on diversity and equity.
