About the Role:

As Senior Manager, Global Variety Development, you will play a crucial role in driving innovation and ensuring McCain Foods maintains a competitive edge in the marketplace. You will lead a team responsible for identifying, developing, and commercializing new potato varieties that meet the evolving needs of our customers and consumers worldwide.

Key Responsibilities:

• Strategic Partnerships: Cultivate and manage relationships with key external partners, including potato variety breeders, universities, and research institutions.
• Variety Development: Lead the global strategy for securing and developing new potato varieties, ensuring alignment with present and future market demands.
• Team Leadership: Guide and mentor a team responsible for variety agreements, introductions, customer approvals, and performance reporting.
• Data Analysis & Insights: Utilize the global variety database to generate insights that inform strategic decision-making across different regions. Develop dashboards and reporting tools to facilitate global information exchange.
• Commercialization: Oversee the process of commercializing new potato varieties, collaborating closely with regional agriculture teams and other internal functions.
• Agronomy Expertise: Serve as a subject matter expert in potato variety and agronomy, providing guidance and support to regional teams.

Qualifications:

• Education:
  • Required: Bachelor of Science in Agriculture
  • Preferred: Master's degree in Agriculture, Business Management, or a related field
• Experience:
  • 5+ years of experience in potato crop production
  • Proven track record in relationship management
  • Experience in crop trials, variety protection, and seed production
  • Strong understanding of the potato processing industry
• Certifications/Accreditations:
  • Required: P.Ag (Professional Agrologist)
  • Preferred: Certified Crop Advisor (CCA), credentials in leadership and business management
