ABOUT THE BRANCH
Bedford Public Library is a unique branch and serving diverse community. Our staff knows about the local history and they're invested in Bedford's vibrant future. We're a great place to celebrate longstanding local traditions, including Bedford Days and the Light-Up Bedford Parade. On a typical day, you'll meet people from different countries, including lots of newcomers gathered for our English Language Learning programs. See people participating in one of our events, from writers' group to French language classes for grandparents. Find a place to meet people, whether over a magazine, crossword puzzle, or in our boisterous family area that's full of fun activities for kids. Benefit from ample parking space, which doubles as a free play area in the summer.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
As Service Support at Halifax Public Libraries, you will:
Working with Public Service:Answer basic customer questions and routine customer account inquiries, in person and on the telephone and refer to appropriate staff as neededSet up and assist with programs/meetings in the library and at community sitesEnsure audience safety, comfort and appropriate behavior at programsWorking with Material Handling:Check in materials (By sorting, lifting, packing, unpacking bins and routing materials and mail)Process holds and returns for circulation, collections and redistributionShelve and move library materials while maintaining proper orderClean and organization for the branch/department and maintain equipment to ensure a safe environment for staff and patronsRecord and compile statisticsAssist with promotion and display of materials, programs and servicesProvide collection maintenance support:Sort, process, repair or discard library materialsResolve problem items (e.g. mismatches, missing pieces)Using guidelines and procedures, enters and edits information in the library database (ILS)Other:Display, promote, and perform work duties in a positive and safe way and display safety awareness at all times.Support and show leadership by working to health and safety standards, following health and safety policies and procedures and encouraging colleagues to work to the same standards by reporting incidents, hazardous conditions and improvement possibilities.

Education & Experience:
Completion of Grade Twelve (12) or equivalent & one (1) year of related experience
(Related experience can come from a number of sources. (i.e., volunteer work, community work, customer service, hospitality, or retail experience.)
Requirements:Read and write EnglishSort in alphabetic and numeric orderBasic computer knowledge and skills including:Functions of a web browserEmail applicationsWillingness to learn additional tools and technologies
Assets:Fluency in a second language
