We are looking for a whip-smart and industrious junior to intermediate strategist to join our fast-growing and award-winning Toronto team. You’ll have exceptional critical thinking skills, a natural empathy for human behaviour and an insatiable desire to learn, in addition to being as enthusiastic about the power of social media to shape culture and drive amazing creative campaigns as we are. 

 

We believe great strategy leads to great ideas and it is therefore at the core of what we do at We Are Social Canada. Your role will be to support the growing Strategy department across creative campaigns and always-on social media planning, while learning from some of the sharpest strategic and creative minds in the business. You will be expected to translate client challenges into inspiring creative briefs, simplify complexity, guide research, shape insights, build approaches, and help steer creative and editorial ideas. 

 

The successful candidate will have shown some aptitude for the rigours of strategy in a creative agency setting. They may already have foundational skills in strategic brand planning and digital/social strategy, but it is not essential that they have held an agency role on a strategy team before. It is essential that they are social and culture-obsessed and familiar with mature and emerging social platform behaviours, trends and formats.

 

You’ll be successful in the role if you’re both collaborative but able to work well independently, have a bias for action, are comfortable with ambiguity, challenge team members to stay on strategy as needed, and are a very strong communicator.

What does the role involve?

 

  • Taking complex problems and simplifying them for our clients and our internal teams.
  • Harnessing cultural trends and insights to support in the architecting of platform ideas and integrated creative that results in brilliantly creative, effective and award-winning advertising and marketing work. 
  • Understanding consumer behaviour in broader culture and across digital and using this to draw out observations and insights that you can communicate effectively. . 
  • Demonstrating a strong understanding of social platforms and how to maximise their potential for reaching and engaging with consumers
  • Working alongside our Research and Insights team, and interpreting data to provide clear and concise strategies for clients.
  • Ability to develop clear strategic thinking and present this information in a confident way to both clients and internal teams.
  • Developing inspiring creative briefs for award-winning creative teams rooted in cultural insights that lead to best-in-class, innovative creative work.
  • Some understanding of how quant and qual data can be used to evaluate content performance and demonstrate the effectiveness of social. 
  • Going the extra mile to support integrated cross-department teams and make exceptional work. 


What we are looking for?

 

  • 1-3 years’ experience either in a creative agency setting and/or as strategist. 
  • A desire to learn and proactively seek and share platform updates, industry news, interesting campaigns etc.
  • A culture-first thinker.
  • A desire to develop clear strategic approaches to marketing and advertising.
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Good creative writing skills for effective creative brief writing
  • Exceptional communication skills.
  • Empathy, humanity, team-oriented mentality and boundless enthusiasm (non-negotiables)
