Job Description

Reporting to the Chair of Indigenous Education and Community Connections (IECC), this position will coordinate and provide research, analysis, and report writing services to a variety of Indigenous projects and initiatives, including but not limited to the creation of resources, handbooks and websites that support Indigenous educators, learners1 and support services in the post-secondary sector. This position will require occasional travel throughout British Columbia.

TYPICAL DUTIES
In collaboration with the IECC Chair and faculty members, coordinates research projects and initiatives that are funded from either Camosun or external sources and which directly support Indigenous learners1, educators and service providers in the post-secondary environment. Activities may include, but are not limited to:
• Researches, synthesizes and compiles reports or lists of resources available to Indigenous learners1 and educators, and creates print ready materials for handbooks, brochures or websites;
• Creates manuals, guides, handbooks or other materials for learners or prospective learners that describe, explain and de-mystify the process of applying for, registering and attending post-secondary institutions;
• Develops or maintains current lists of resources that support Indigenous learners including various funding sources through Band, Métis and Urban organizations and bursaries, scholarships and awards;
• Acts as a liaison between Camosun College, project funders, Ministry officials, First Nations community representatives, and external contractors to coordinate project requirements from research through to completion and implementation;
• Coordinates the design, layout and content management of websites that support Indigenous projects and initiatives;
• Performs other related duties similar in scope and complexity. Qualifications Completion of a two-year College Diploma plus two years’ experience with research and project coordination in the First Nations/Indigenous post-secondary environment, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

In addition:
• Knowledge of Indigenous post-secondary systems in British Columbia and Canada, including Indigenous student funding systems.
• Knowledge and internalized understanding of First Nations social and educational issues, resources, and community. Understanding of the cultural diversity amongst Indigenous people in Canada and the college catchment area.
• Strong interpersonal, intercultural, and group communication skills including knowledge of culturally appropriate ways of working with local First Nations.
• Advanced technical and computer skills, including proficiency in Windows/MS Office software applications including Word, Excel, Frontpage and Outlook.
• Demonstrated ability to maintain technological knowledge as necessary.
• Excellent research and writing skills, including the ability to assess and adapt writing style to a variety of audiences.
• Demonstrated ability to manage time and resources with multiple priorities, including attention to detail, analytical skills, good judgment, initiative, and strong time management skills.
