Reliability Engineer, Mobile Equipment – Full Time Fly in Fly Out

1 month ago

North Slave Region, Canada De Beers Group Full time
Job Description

Reporting to Reliability Engineering Superintendent, the primary role of the Reliability Engineer is to improve the reliability of mobile equipment and identify risks that could adversely affect business operations. Reliability is achieved by implementing the reliability engineering elements of the Asset Management (AM) system and a rigorous and systematic analysis of physical failures, asset conditions, and component reliability data. The Reliability Engineer is also responsible for compiling business cases to motivate and or evaluate improvement suggestions; these suggestions are based on the asset life cycle costs and the value of improvements. The Reliability Engineer is a technical advisor and support to the mobile equipment maintenance team. The department is fast paced, requiring a results driven technical expert who can set direction consistent with the needs of the business, while taking the time to learn from mistakes and offering guidance to others. The role is well suited to someone who enjoys overcoming unique challenges, can quickly build relationships with key stakeholders and who is committed to safe work practices while striving for zero harm.

Key responsibilities:

  • Asset Management: Develop and implement strategies for the reliability and optimization of mining equipment and assets, including hydraulic mining shovels, haul trucks, dozers, graders, and rock drills and other mobile equipment related to mining operation.
  • Reliability Analysis: Define asset criticality and perform reliability analysis on critical equipment to identify failure modes, root causes, and opportunities for improvement. Utilize tools such as FMEA (Failure Mode and Effects Analysis) and RCM (Reliability-Centered Maintenance) to enhance asset performance.
  • Condition Monitoring: Implement and oversee condition monitoring programs to track the health and performance of equipment, utilizing techniques such as vibration analysis, oil analysis, thermography, and ultrasonic testing.
  • Data Analysis: Analyze data from equipment monitoring systems and historical maintenance records to identify trends, patterns, and opportunities for optimization. Utilize data-driven insights to make informed decisions regarding maintenance strategies and equipment upgrades.
  • Maintenance Strategy Development: Develop and optimize preventive maintenance (PM), predictive maintenance (PdM), and condition-based maintenance (CBM) strategies to maximize equipment uptime and minimize unplanned downtime. Systematically develop, monitor and refine asset maintenance tactics and strategies to facilitate reliability centered maintenance systems implementation.
  • Defect Elimination (DE) and Root Cause Analysis (RCA): Establish, document, and coordinate DE activities on-site to facilitate developing engineering solutions for repetitive failures and issues that adversely affect operations and maintenance. This includes defining DE triggers, leading complex DE projects, leading RCA investigations, developing solutions, collaborating with cross-functional teams to implement sustainable solutions, and tracking the solutions effectiveness to eliminate the defects and prevent future re-occurrences.
  • Reliability Improvement Projects: Lead or participate in reliability improvement projects aimed at increasing equipment reliability, availability, and performance. Collaborate with maintenance, operations, and engineering teams to implement best practices and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate documentation of reliability-related activities, including maintenance procedures, equipment histories, and reliability metrics. Prepare reports and presentations to communicate key performance indicators and reliability improvements to stakeholders.
  • RAM analysis: Support new equipment procurement, from an operational readiness and technical perspective, and perform Reliability, Availability and Maintainability (RAM) analyses for new equipment.
  • Risk and bottleneck mitigation: Engage and collaborate with peers and stakeholders to identify and resolve overarching risks and bottlenecks.

The role is site based, working a 2 weeks on and 2 weeks off rotation. Point of pick up for this position is Calgary or Yellowknife.

Qualifications

    • Legally permitted to work in Canada.
    • Post-secondary degree in Mechanical Engineering.
    • Eight (8) years of related experience in mining, heavy industrial or process environments.
    • Four (4) years of experience in maintenance or reliability engineering with focus on mining equipment.
    • Proficiency in reliability analysis techniques such as FMEA, RCM, and RCA.
    • Experience with condition monitoring technologies and tools, including vibration analysis, oil analysis, thermography, and ultrasonic testing.
    • Experience with predictive and preventive maintenance tools;
    • Skilled with data and statistical analysis;
    • Knowledge of maintenance management systems (CMMS, e.g. SAP) and data analysis tools.
    • Advanced knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite;
    • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills;
    • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a cross-functional team.
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively interact with stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
