Our Nuclear Canada business is experiencing significant growth driven in part by interests in nuclear new build projects internationally and domestically. As part of the global efforts to reach net zero emissions, Nuclear Canada is striving to be a leader in new nuclear builds, through deployment of the CANDU MONARK, and Small Modular Reactors (SMR).
The candidate will report to the Director, New Build Strategy & Capture, and will be responsible for all aspects of program execution for new nuclear deployment in the Western Canada. The PM will work with the engineering, project management, deployment, and stakeholders engagement teams to develop the overall deployment schedule, strategy, logistics to site, as well as IT and digital infrastructure and stakeholder engagement. As part of the program execution, the PM will be relied upon as key contributor to the deployment strategy. Excellent communication, client relationship, and presentation skills are a must for this role. Ideal candidate to have a strong passion for deploying clean energy options to the electrical grid.
The PM is expected to build positive relationships and interact with many levels of leadership internally and with external stakeholders. Alignment and coordination with the major project teams are needed to successfully execute the projects. The PM is expected to have significant experience in project pre-planning, constructability initiation & reviews and forward thought of integrated delivery of mega projects, engineering, procurement, contract management and project controls principles.
The individual will be responsible for delivery of the full project lifecycle with an initial focus on early works and Definition Phase activities, making contributions to the balance of proposal activities and client negotiations to set the project on a path to success. This role will require leadership of all project team members and will be responsible for the development of work execution plans, assignment of or recruitment of project team members, development of overall work breakdown structure (WBS), project deliverables, organizational chart, budget, schedule, subcontract and supplier strategy, risk management, project forecast and people forecasting and levelling (PFL) for the project.
This role will be based in Alberta.
Your role within the team :
Working closely with Director, New build Strategies and Capture, the Project Manager shall strategically plan, develop, then execute projects to achieve strategic objectives of the organization. This may include customer driven, or internally funded, feasibility studies, consulting assignments, early project works, and other tasks that contribute to the new nuclear team’s overall goals. PM shall support the program teams to determine needed resources (manpower, equipment, and materials) from start to finish with attention to budgetary limitations. PM is responsible for frequent engagement and relationship building with the clients to understand the fundamental needs. PM is responsible for developing project scope and deliverable definition in compliance with the governing contract documents, quality requirements for the project and any additional customer requirements. PM is responsible for all contract management including scope & change control, requirements management, subcontractor and supplier management and governance for any flow-down requirements from the parent contract to subs and vendors. PM is responsible and accountable for all aspects of nuclear and industrial safety including adherence with corporate and customer safety programs, development and enforcement of necessary training and requirements, adherence to corrective action programs and enforcement of performance standards for all the above. PM shall apply appropriate key performance indicators to monitor project health and performance and establish rigorous reporting protocols that meet all requirements of the contract, corporate standards and project-specific oversight as established by senior management or customer. PM shall ensure that all project activities are performed in accordance with corporate standards of ethical compliance, cyber-security, import-export regulations, intellectual property protections and security clearance protocols. PM shall develop and implement detailed project execution plans and monitoring their execution through comprehensive reporting to clients and senior management. PM shall perform rigorous risk analysis in accordance with corporate standards and application of industry best practice including monte-carlo methodology and contingency draw-down curves.PM shall form and maintain relationships with clients, partners, suppliers, and project stakeholders. 15+ years’ experience supporting various types of large-scale process and/or power plant construction, manufacturing, or engineering services projects. 8+ years’ experience leading individuals and teams. Experience in Front End Engineering Design (FEED) phase is a must. Self-starter, with ability to work remotely from Alberta. Frequent travels to Ontario, Alberta, and Saskatchewan Experience with nuclear plant construction and nuclear standards an asset. Experience in business development, sales, or customer relations an asset. Strategic planning and execution experience. Ability to understand, plan, and execute in alignment with the overall business unit’s strategies and needs. Working Knowledge of industrial safety. Understanding of EPC work including subcontracts, prime contract management. Understanding of supply chain and materials management principle; nuclear supply chain knowledge an asset. Understanding of project delivery methodology including earned value, critical path scheduling, prime contract and subcontract management, procurement and supply chain methodology and construction work packaging and associated inspection and test plans. Can build a team and can inspire them to perform and work together towards a common goal. An appreciation of the importance of Quality Assurance Programs and their significance to the nuclear industry an asset. Excellent organizational, communication and customer relationship skills. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Strong stakeholder management skills, including interfacing with senior management, customers, and government. BSc in Engineering or equivalent is an asset. Project Management Professional (PMP) designation is considered an asset.Necessary Competencies :
