Production Control Specialist

  1. General Summary: Responsible for assisting with all functions of the Production Control department. Toyota's Production System philosophy ensures customer requirements and manufacturing needs are met.
  2. Essential Job Functions:
  3. Responsible for on-time customer shipments and all customer concerns.
  4. Monitors customer orders based on component availability, machine capacity, and purchasing agreements.
  5. Create and issue the weekly production plan using customer forecast information.
  6. Monitor raw material inventory levels required for production.
  7. Follow the material flow from planned/production orders through sales order shipment to customers.
  8. Monitor Oracle's on-hand inventory and identify problems that could impact manufacturing.
  9. Summarize inventory variances, perform root cause analysis and cycle count adjustments.
  10. Monitor all supplier short shipments.
  11. Collect and summarize data for reporting to management.
  12. Work with management and engineering to understand and advise on short-term/long-term capacities to minimize past-due orders and unneeded capital investments.
  13. Use the Kanban system to maintain lean inventory levels and JIT.
  14. Perform cycle counts or visual management of finished goods inventory.
  15. Create, enter, and maintain part information for new/current customers.
  16. Enter and maintain customer releases.
  17. Calculate and enter any unique or unusual production requirements to support the sales forecast.
  18. Maintain all shipping documentation per TS16949.

  • Minimum Qualifications/Requirements:

Education:

  • Business, Operations/Materials Management or related field required, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience:

  • Entry to 4 years of relevant manufacturing experience is required.
  • Automotive environment preferred.
  • Experience with Toyota launch systems and requirements preferred.

Personal/Technical Skills:

  • Basic shop math ability required (i.e., addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).
  • Understanding of conceptual math (i.e., basic geometry, charts and graphs) is required.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and understand engineering documents such as automotive drawings, Engineering Change Instructions (ECI), Prototype Parts Requests (PPR), and colour instructions.
  • A general understanding of the Toyota Production System (TPS) is preferred.
  • A good understanding of seat, welding, door, carpet, and headliner processes is a plus.
  • Effective time management skills.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Strong organization and planning skills.
  • Excellent critical thinking skills are required.
  • Hands-on, self-starter with a strong work ethic.
  • Active listener with practical communication skills.
  • Ability to perform responsibilities with minimal supervision.

  • Ability to maintain records and files and prepare recaps and reports.
  • Ability to maintain on-call flexibility to control abnormal conditions.

  • Ability to create excellent working relationships with internal and external customers.
  • Must be able to work a fixed or rotating shift schedule, including daily or weekend overtime.
  • Ability to multitask, manage diversity, and facilitate effective problem-solving and resolution.

Language Skills:

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.

Computer/Software:

  • Solid working knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office and other computer-based applications (e.g., MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, Lotus Notes/Outlook, Internet, etc.).
  • Experience with MRP and EDI systems.

  1. Work Environment/Conditions:

Office: Open Office Environment, moderate noise level.

Plant: This is a standard automotive plant environment with moderate noise levels. PPE (Personal Protective Equipment), such as safety glasses, steel-toe shoes, hearing protection, etc., may be required in engineering, manufacturing, or industrial areas. Personal attire standards may apply.


Travel: Must be willing to travel up to 10% of the time

While performing the duties of this job, the team member is required to talk, see, and hear. The team member must be capable of walking, sitting, and standing and is occasionally required to lift to 30 pounds.
