We are looking for two (2) Instrumentation Technologists to support the Combustion Research Facility (CRF) team within the Aerospace Research Centre at the 1200 Montreal Road campus facilities. The Instrumentation Technologists would be those who share our core values of Integrity, Excellence, Respect and Creativity.

You will be responsible for working closely with a multidisciplinary team composed of Technical Officers, Research Council Officers and Research Officers within the CRF Group at NRC.

Your responsibilities include:

Support the installation, maintenance and operation of a variety of analytical instrumentation and equipment required to support activities in CRF’s combustion test cells and in its research laboratories; Execute the calibration of critical and non-critical instruments following existing procedures and quality system work instructions based on the NRC Aerospace ISO-9001-2015; as well as, making continuous updates and improvements of said procedures; Assist in the design, development and assembly of electronic and real-time computer hardware / software used for control and measurement; Provide technical expertise for defining requirements and selecting scientific instrumentation, components and softwares.

Screening Criteria

Applicants must demonstrate within the content of their application that they meet the following screening criteria in order to be given further consideration as candidates:

Education

A 3-year College Diploma in Electrical, Instrumentation or Process Control Engineering Technology.

A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Automation or Process Control Engineering combined with relevant experience will also be considered.

Experience

Significant and recent experience* in experimental measurement techniques and signal conditioning/processing; Significant and recent experience in the design, specification, and development of instrumentation, data acquisition and control systems hardware and software; Significant experience in the maintenance, calibration, operation, troubleshooting and repair of electronic measurement instrumentation while working under pressure to provide rapid and robust solutions; Basic experience using laboratory or industrial process programming languages (LabVIEW or PLC) to develop custom software and integration of hardware and data acquisition systems; and Basic experience in planning and implementing technical projects including delegating tasks and the development of cost estimates, status updates and schedules.

 
*Please note that significant experience is considered 3 to 6 years of experience.

Candidates will be assessed on the basis of the following criteria:

Technical Competencies

Advanced knowledge in specifying, installing and calibrating instrumentation, sensors and data acquisition hardware for temperature, pressure, flow and vibration measurements, including the required calibration standards for such measurements; Working knowledge of software design principles and the use of software such as LabVIEW and/or Ladder logic programming; Working knowledge of the design, troubleshooting and repair of electronic and electromechanical systems; Advanced knowledge of calibration methods and standards as well as the analysis of measurement accuracy; Working knowledge of safety best practices and methods used in industrial facilities; and Basic skills in using various hand tools for instrumentation panel building.

Compensation

From $58,445 to $80,040 per annum.
