Elk Island Public Schools Central Services building is located in Sherwood Park, at 683 Wye Road. Providing services for the Division, Central Services is comprised of eight departments, in addition to the Board of Trustees. The departments include Education Executive, Communication Services, Facility Services, Student Transportation, Human Resources, Financial Services, Supports for Students and Information Technologies.

FUNCTION AND PURPOSE

The Service Desk Analyst will be primarily responsible for ensuring the

seamless operation of the Information Technologies Service Desk and in-person

support of Central Office staff. This includes providing comprehensive support

and training to enhance the user experience and facilitate the effective use of

these technologies in daily activities. The analyst will be instrumental in

optimizing workflows, troubleshooting and documenting issues, and contributing

to the overall digital transformation of the organization. Primarily actioning

requests and incidents via tickets submitted by staff, this role involves near-constant

written and verbal communication via calls, emails, direct messaging, and

ticket updates. This position is tailored for a junior level systems analyst

passionate about the intersection of people and technology, leveraging and

growing their expertise to drive innovation and efficiency through digital

solutions in a fast-paced team environment.

KEY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategy and Planning (25%)

Document business processes and workflows, identifying areas for improvement.

Recommend and implement innovative solutions to enhance application functionality and performance.

Identify opportunities for process automation and efficiency improvements.

Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies.

Assist with project plans, timelines, and deliverables.

Develop and execute test plans to ensure system changes meet business requirements and are free of defects.

Perform user acceptance testing (UAT) with stakeholders to validate application functionality.

Track and report on application performance and issues.

Acquisition and Deployment (15%)

Assist in deploying new applications and system enhancements.

Deploy pre-packaged software and assist in software releases and rollouts.

Liaise with external vendors and service providers to coordinate support and maintenance activities.

Manage data import/export processes and maintain data integrity.

Develop and execute data migration strategies during system upgrades or changes.

Operational Management (60%)

Provide day-to-day support for division systems and software applications, including troubleshooting and resolving issues, and escalating tickets as appropriate.

Install, configure, test, maintain, monitor, and troubleshoot devices and software.

Perform routine maintenance and updates to ensure optimal performance and security.

Create, delete, and modify user accounts and permissions.

Manage application-related incidents and problems to minimize disruption to business operations.

Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.

Support the records and information management program and all related digital assets and storage.

Use diagnostic tools for troubleshooting and perform hands-on fixes.

Monitor and enforce security policies, including access control and data protection measures.

Create and maintain user guides, training materials, and technical documentation.

Document all service requests, changes, incidents, and problems.

Provide training for end-users to ensure effective use of applications.

Provide ongoing support and training for new features or applications.

Mentor school and central office staff to standardize and enhance IT processes.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Minimum Required: Technical diploma in computer related area at a recognized institution or equivalent experience.

Experience

Minimum of one year of directly applicable experience or equivalent

A combination of education and experience will be considered, i.e. a diploma in a related field from a technical institution plus years of experience.
