Vancouver, Canada BC Community Alliance Full time

Role: Program & Grants Coordinator

Status: Temporary, Full-time (30 hours/week)

Location: Vancouver, BC

This position is available as a part of the Canada Summer Jobs Placement program. Successful candidates must be 30 or younger, and a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident to be eligible for hire.

Who we are

The BC Community Alliance (BCCA) is a local Black-led, community-based, organization, formed in 2019 and registered as a non-profit in 2020, dedicated to addressing the structural inequities created by racism, especially anti-Black racism, within education settings in British Columbia. The organization was born out of a crisis in our community, following a racist bomb threat at a Vancouver high school, Lord Byng Secondary, and recognizing the broad harm that occurred not only to Black students in the school but also felt within the broader community, especially other Black community members.

Although the 'Lord Byng incident' was a foundational moment in the formation of the BC Community Alliance, we are more accurately understood as a response to the racism that is felt by many racialized students.

This role is instrumental in supporting our organization's mission by managing various programs and coordinating grant activities. The ideal candidate for the role will possess excellent communication skills, have keen attention to detail, and a passion for facilitating positive change within the community. We are looking for someone who is energetic, has a passion for building rapport and connections, and who loves driving business goals forward in a public setting.

First impressions are a very important factor of our business, and therefore, your demeanour, knowledge, and helpfulness are extremely influential when representing the BCCA brand.

What you’ll do
  • Oversee and coordinate programs in alignment with organizational goals and objective
  • Coordinate program logistics, including scheduling, participant communication, and resource allocation
  • Collaborate with internal teams to ensure program effectiveness and adherence to budgetary constraints
  • Monitor program outcomes and evaluate effectiveness through data analysis and feedback mechanisms
  • Continuously seek opportunities for BCCA program improvement and innovation
  • Research funding opportunities and identify suitable grants aligned with organizational priorities
  • Prepare grant proposals, including drafting narratives, compiling supporting documents, and completing application forms
  • Manage grant timelines, ensuring timely submission of proposals and reports
  • Maintain accurate records of grant activities, including tracking expenditures and outcomes
  • Cultivate relationships with grantors and program partners to enhance funding opportunities and partnerships
  • Serve as a liaison between internal partners, program participants, and external partners
  • Respond to inquiries from partners and provide timely updates on program status and performance
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation related to program activities, expenditures, and outcomes
  • Other duties as assigned

 What you bring
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (such as nonprofit management, public administration, social sciences, or a related discipline)
  • Previous experience in program management, grant writing, or nonprofit administration preferred
  • Strong writing skills with the ability to craft compelling narratives and grant proposals
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace and experience with database management systems
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with diverse program partners
  • Commitment to BCCA’s mission and values

What we offer
  • 30 hours per week at $30.00/hour - approx. 9 week duration
