Victoria, Canada Peninsula Co-op Full time

We're actively hiring a  VP, People and Culture —a dynamic leader to join our team full-time, reporting directly to the CEO. You'll lead our HR team, ensuring we meet current and future organizational needs as we expand and diversify. Your role is pivotal, advising senior leadership and the Board on strategic HR initiatives including organizational design, workforce planning, engagement, learning and development, diversity, and inclusion.


Responsibilities

Planning

·         Leads the implementation and execution of human resource strategies that align with the Co-op’s short and long-term business strategies and priorities. 

·         Leads development and implementation of business improvements, using best practice and performance metrics to drive continuous improvement. 

·         Coordinates human resources strategies and activities related to mergers and acquisitions.

·         Proactively ensures regulatory compliance with all applicable laws and regulations in related areas, for example, employment standards, human rights and health and safety.

·         Creates and monitors the annual department plan and related budget.

·         Works closely with the Board of Directors, including supporting the HR Committee initiatives.

Hiring & Integration

·         Oversees recruitment strategy and planning process related to talent acquisition, including workforce planning and forecasting, succession planning and needs analysis

·         Ensure effective onboarding processes to welcome and integrate new employees into the organization.

Learning & Developing

·         Ensures effective leadership development practices are in place at all levels of the organization, including talent reviews, succession planning, performance management and development activities.

·         Develop and oversee programs to enhance employee skills and knowledge.

·         Implement processes for promoting and recognizing outstanding employee contributions.

·         Manage performance evaluation processes and tools to assess employee performance and development needs.

·         Maintain and actively participate in professional HR associations and organizations to stay informed about industry trends, best practices, and legal changes.

·         Pursue ongoing education and certifications to enhance expertise and ensure compliance with evolving HR standards and regulations.

·         Lead talent development initiatives, including succession planning and career growth opportunities.

Engaging

·         Ensure that HR strategies, practices, and initiatives align with the organization's brand identity, values, and culture, reinforcing a consistent and positive employer brand image.

·         Leads and develops the small team of HR professionals.

·         Oversees internal communications and employee engagement activities, including the HRIS, employee newsletters etc., in collaboration with Marketing and Central Operations. 

Compensation

·         Oversees the design and implementation of compensation programs that align with business objectives, rewarding strong performance while supporting the Co-op’s culture and competitiveness in the marketplace.

Transitioning

·         Oversee offboarding processes to ensure a smooth transition for departing employees.

·         Oversee comprehensive leave management policies and procedures, including medical and personal leaves, ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations.

·         Oversee an effective return-to-work program that facilitates the seamless transition of employees back to their roles after a leave of absence, providing necessary support and accommodations as needed to promote employee well-being and productivity.

General

·         Maintains the strictest privacy and confidentiality protocols to protect employee information. 


Experience and education

·         Under-graduate degree in human resources, business, commerce or related field.

·         Minimum of 10 years of experience in human resources, with at least 8 years in a senior management role.

·         CPHR designation.

·         Advanced knowledge of the theories, concepts, practices and methods pertaining to general human resource functions, occupational health and safety, training, and employee engagement. 

·         Experience operating in a rapidly changing, high growth environment.

·         Experience leading a team of professionals, inspiring excellence in service delivery.

·         Experience developing talent through positive coaching and mentorship.

·         The ability to balance and support strategic, operational and tactical objectives across the organization.

·         Demonstrated ability to build open, trusting relationships at all levels of the organization and externally.

·         Experience communicating in a clear, concise and comprehensive manner both verbally and in writing. 

·         Experience in budgeting and forecasting.

·         Proficiency with Microsoft 365 and HRIS/payroll software.

·         Experience working in the retail business sector is an asset.

·         Acting as a model of integrity.
