Coordinator, Indigenous Cultural Safety

**Job Description**:
In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, Values, and strategic direction of the Vancouver Island Health Authority (Island Health) patient and staff safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone; as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.
Reporting to the Manager or Project Director, the Coordinator is responsible for coordinating educational sessions and resource opportunities in alignment with Island Health priorities. This includes a focus on supporting Island Health's commitment to addressing Indigenous specific racism and building trust in the delivery of all programs and services to Indigenous Peoples in a manner that is perceived by the recipients as culturally safe.
The Coordinator will work with a variety of programs and departments within Island Health, including but not limited to Indigenous Health, Cultural Safety Program, Primary Care Strategy Leadership, Clinical Learning & Knowledge Services, Medical and Academic Affairs, Divisions of Family Practice and other relevant partner/community organizations as required.
Travel may be a requirement of this position. Transportation arrangements must meet the operational requirements of Island Health in accordance with the service assignment and may require the use of a personal vehicle.
**QUALIFICATIONS**:
**Education, Training And Experience**:
A level of education, training and experience equivalent to Bachelor's Degree in Health Services, Health and Human Sciences, Health Promotion and Education.
A minimum of three (3) years of experience working in a health care, adult education curriculum development, or equivalent.
Understanding in Decolonizing systems, anti-racism pedagogy, and/or transformational learning frameworks are an asset.
Knowledge of recommendations included in the Truth and Reconciliation and In Plain Sight reports.
Knowledge of social determinants of health and commitment to addressing the needs of people who are marginalized and face barriers in accessing care.
Valid BC Driver's license.

- Demonstrated communication (written and verbal) skills
- Ability and skillset to design educational curriculums
- Ability to identify where all parties are in their journey of learning
- Demonstrating the ability to listen to and understand what better care for Indigenous Peoples is and acknowledging that it starts with me
- Recognize the differences between people's views and perceptions of illness and your personal and professional views
- Critical thinking and problem solving skills
- Experience working with physicians and allied health professionals an asset
- Commitment to ongoing professional development and lifelong learning
- Ability to be self-directed and work independently, as well as in partnership and collaboratively with others
- Ability to operate related equipment, including computer hardware and software
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office required
- Experience in or ability to quickly learn computer programs/interfaces is an asset
