Assistant/Associate/Full Professor - Transfusion Medicine Specialist Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, an academic teaching hospital fully affiliated with the University of Toronto, is seeking a permanent Academic Transfusion Medicine Specialist (FTE 0.5‑0.6) to join the Division of Transfusion Medicine & Tissue Bank, Department of Laboratory Medicine and Molecular Diagnostics. The position is appointed at the rank of Assistant, Associate or Full Professor at the University of Toronto and will commence on January 5, 2026 or shortly thereafter. Key responsibilities: Lead clinical care of transfusion needs for trauma, cardiac, obstetrics, neonatal, and cancer patients. Perform on‑call coverage and provide on‑site support to Sunnybrook partner hospitals. Deliver education, training and supervision of residents, fellows and medical students. Participate in administrative and quality‑improvement activities within the Division and the University of Toronto transfusion research program. Engage in clinical hematology or hematopathology services as warranted and collaborate with related departmental divisions. Qualifications: Medical degree and Canadian fellowship in Transfusion Medicine (Royal College, Area of Focused Competence) or equivalent (Anatomical Pathology/Clinical Pathology with accredited Transfusion Medicine training). Eligibility for medical licensure in Ontario. Experience in managing transfusion needs for high‑risk patient populations. Training or exposure to cellular therapies, apheresis, tissue banking and regulatory certification (e.g., FACT) preferred. Proven record of teaching and research in transfusion or related laboratory medicine. Compensation and benefits are commensurate with experience and are in line with the uniform minimum level for laboratory physicians in Ontario (≈$404,000 per annum prorated to service level). Partial remuneration may include fee‑for‑service for clinical hematology services.
