Assistant/Associate/Full Professor – Spine Surgery Date Posted: 10/02/2025 Closing Date: 11/15/ :59 PM ET Req ID: 45358 Job Category: Faculty – Clinical Faculty/Division: Temerty Faculty of Medicine Department: Department of Surgery Hospital Affiliation: Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre Campus: St. George (Downtown Toronto) Overview The Division of Spine Surgery, Department of Surgery, Holland Bone and Joint Program at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre is inviting applications for a mid‑career academic full‑time faculty spine surgeon with fellowship training covering spine trauma, spine oncology and spine degenerative conditions. This person will be the new Division Head of Spine Surgery. The effective date of this appointment is flexible, tentatively aiming for July 1, 2026. Applications should be submitted by November 15, 2025. Responsibilities Establish an academic surgical practice focused on spine oncology and spine trauma, while performing elective spine degenerative surgery. Commit at least 50 % of time to formal academic and leadership activities, including teaching, research, and administrative leadership. Develop and maintain a research profile aligned with Sunnybrook Research Institute programs in evaluative clinical sciences, biological sciences, or physical sciences. Participate in education of learners at all levels as a member of the Department of Surgery and the University of Toronto. Lead and mentor junior faculty and trainees; collaborate across programs, including potential cross‑appointment to Orthopedic or Neurosurgery divisions. Engage in clinical trials, health services research, quality improvement, education research, and translational discovery research. Qualifications Mid‑career faculty spine surgeon with fellowship training in spine trauma, spine oncology, and spine degenerative conditions. Strong track record of research productivity, teaching excellence, and academic leadership. Graduate‑level training (Master or PhD preferred) aligned with Sunnybrook Research Institute’s research platforms. Eligibility for hospital appointment as Active Staff and university appointment ranked Assistant, Associate or Full Professor at the University of Toronto. Eligibility for certification with the Royal College of Physicians, Surgeons of Canada and licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario. Eligibility for appointment as Associate Scientist or Scientist in Sunnybrook Research Institute. Experience mentoring junior faculty and trainees; history of collaborative leadership. Compensation & Benefits Annual salary range: $500,000 – $700,000, commensurate with qualifications and experience, based on fee‑for‑service billings.
