Position Overview

The Vice President of People & Culture (P&C) provides executive-level leadership and guidance to the organization’s HR operations. This role plays an essential role in leading the development and implementation of sound People and Culture strategies and programs, promoting effective management best practices and supporting the company in achieving its business growth plans.

The VP provides expertise, advice, tools, training, decision making and strategic and tactical support in all areas of People and Culture. This is a hands-on opportunity that will benefit from an experienced HR leader who is pragmatic and deploys an entrepreneurial and solutions-oriented approach.


Role Responsibilities

Strategy & Culture & Leadership:

  • Collaborates with executive leadership to define the organization’s long-term mission and goals
  • Develops and executes a people strategy aligned with the company’s short and long-term strategies
  • Drives, amplifies, and scales the company culture – Support / Steward a culture of Accountability, Integrity, Customer-Focus, Expertise and Entrepreneurial Spirit
  • Involvement and oversight in culture related employee events
  • Create and deliver executive briefings to executives
  • Orchestrate executive offsites/events and team building to accelerate organizational growth and effectiveness

Consulting/Coaching with Management and Employees:

  • Builds and maintains relationships at all levels of the company
  • Provides coaching, direction advice and solutions to management and employees regarding employment-related issues
  • Supports senior leaders to champion strong values and culture in their leadership roles
  • Promptly and professionally responds to internal and external inquiries and requests

Compliance & Policy

  • Remains current on HR legal requirements, reducing legal risk and ensuring regulatory compliance
  • Develops and implements policies, procedures and training modules as required
  • Provides guidance and interpretation of HR policies and procedures

Employee Engagement

  • Create and implement engagement surveys and analyze and present results
  • Collaborate with senior management and make recommendations on survey action plans to address areas requiring corrective action
  • Monitor engagement level progress

Talent Acquisition

  • Ensure efficient and effective recruitment and selection process
  • Ensure best practices are in place for interviews and hiring for cultural fit
  • Create and implement on-boarding program for Head Office and Property locations

Compensation & Benefits

  • Research, develop and implement compensation and incentive programs
  • Plan and oversee employee benefit plans: Health & Dental, Life, AD&D, EAP
  • Identify compensation and benefit enhancements/opportunities to further market competitiveness
  • Manage sick leaves and return to work plans in collaboration with management, while protecting privacy/confidential medical information
  • Manage WSIB process in cases of employee injury

Learning & Development

  • Conduct needs assessments on company-wide learning and development opportunities and implement appropriate training
  • Oversee tuition reimbursement
  • Leadership development program design, implementation, and oversight
  • Leverage learning technologies to enable our people and support best in class talent growth

Performance Management

  • Implements effective performance management program
  • Facilitates the cascading of company goals to employee level via the performance management program
  • Provides education and timely communications to the management and employees on performance management timeless and requirements
  • Supports management in the creation of Performance Improvement Plans for employees who are not meeting expectations
  • Handles discipline and termination of employees in accordance with company policy

Data & Insights:

  • Implementation and adoption of Dayforce across the company
  • Oversight of data integrity and that data is dependable, accurate and up to date
  • Leverage technology to develop key metrics, compile data and create reports
  • Identifies key HR performance indicators; assesses the organization’s success and market competitiveness based on these metrics

Environmental, Social and Governance

  • Lead, develop, implement, and report on HR ESG factors, such as:
  • Code of Conduct and other Corporate Governance policies
  • Health and Well-Being policies, surveys and metrics including Health & Safety and Human Rights
  • Workforce and Culture initiatives including Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, Employee Engagement Surveys

Employee Relations

  • Establish and maintain a positive labour relations environment, and healthy and productive workplace/sites
  • Ensure the company always acts in good faith and builds a reputation as a fair employer
  • Align P&C policies, processes and systems to enable provisions of the collective agreement

Health & Safety

  • Build a safety legacy; ensuring the company exemplifies the highest standards of health and safety for our people, projects and communities
  • Oversight of the Health and Safety policy and procedures for Head Office, Property & Development locations
  • Collaboration with Operations & Property Management to source and implement training to ensure legislative compliance
  • Monitor Joint Health & Safety Committee and track monthly H&S Inspections and Quarterly Meetings


Desired Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field required; additional HR certifications are desirable
  • At least 10-15 years of progressive, senior HR leadership working in a high growth, entrepreneurial environment
  • Experience in an Investment Management, Real Estate or Financial Services environment preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with stakeholders across all levels of the company
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Proven ability to build and execute HR strategy and programs from scratch and grow an HR function aligned with and in support of the business’ growth strategy
  • Solid knowledge of strategic planning, change management and organization development methodologies
  • Proven ability to think strategically and deliver tactical and operational projects
  • Strong business acumen that translates to results and solutions
  • Ability to multi-task, meet pressing deadlines and good judgement / sound decisions based on priorities, data, and risks
  • Highly ethical, impartial, diplomatic, respectful, organized, and accountable
  • Strong critical thinking, analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong supervisory and leadership skills
  • Thorough knowledge of employment-related laws and regulations
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, Dayforce, or related HR software
