Very Attractive Equity-Like Incentive Compensation in Addition to Cash Salary:

If the candidate is adequately senior and has the credentials described below, they would be entitled to receive a lucrative incentive compensation package in addition to cash salary. Unlike other biotechnology companies that might offer stock options that are difficult to monetize, Apogee will offer an incentive compensation plan paid in cash periodically that is tied to attainable goals, such as raising capital and drug licensing deals (partnerships with big pharma), etc. There is no need here to wait until a company goes public or is sold. This is a rare opportunity in biotechnology and pharmaceuticals.

Position Overview:

Apogee is seeking a highly experienced Vice President of Medicinal Chemistry to lead its discovery programs and contribute to Apogee’s early-stage drug pipeline. The Vice President of Medicinal Chemistry, the most senior chemistry position at Apogee, will lead its existing team of exceptional chemists. The candidate will be responsible for overseeing and directing all chemistry-related activities as well as providing mentorship to the team. In this key leadership role, the candidate will be instrumental in shaping the strategic vision by discovering and prioritizing chemical series, designing drug-like molecules, securing intellectual property, and providing technical expertise. The successful candidate must possess a vast knowledge of organic chemistry and have amply demonstrated the ability to lead chemistry programs integrated closely with pharmacology.

Key Responsibilities:

· Develop and implement a comprehensive medicinal chemistry strategy to support the identification, optimization, and advancement of high-quality drug candidates

· Lead a team of talented medicinal chemists, providing scientific guidance, technical oversight, and career development

· Design and synthesize novel small molecule compounds, leveraging the candidate’s deep understanding of structure-activity relationships, synthetic methodology, and computational chemistry

· Create novel intellectual property (IP), contribute to patent applications and possess a working knowledge of patent prosecution

· Collaborate cross-functionally with DMPK experts, biologists, pharmacologists, toxicologists and other scientific experts to guide the progression of lead compounds through the drug discovery pipeline

· Establish and maintain relationships with external partners, including academic institutions and contract research organizations, to enhance the company's drug discovery capabilities

· Present findings and updates to executive leadership, board of directors, and other stakeholders

· Stay abreast of the latest trends and advancements in medicinal chemistry, drug discovery, and the therapeutic areas of strategic importance to the company

· Contribute to the development of a high-caliber chemistry research team

Qualifications:

· PhD in organic chemistry, medicinal chemistry, or a related field, with 15+ years of progressive experience in the biotechnology or pharmaceutical industry

· Proven track record of successfully leading the discovery and optimization of small molecule drug candidates, with a demonstrated history of advancing compounds into clinical development

· Extensive expertise in modern synthetic organic chemistry, medicinal chemistry principles, and computational tools for structure-based drug design

· Exceptional problem-solving, critical thinking, and decision-making skills, with the ability to effectively manage multiple, complex projects simultaneously

· Track record of securing intellectual property / issued patents

· Strong leadership skills, including the ability to motivate, develop, and inspire a team of talented chemists

· Good communication and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively convey complex scientific concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences

· Entrepreneurial mindset and a commitment to the development of innovative therapeutics that address unmet medical needs
