Company Overview:
Our client, a leading produce company, seeks a dynamic and experienced Procurement Director to join its berry division. This pivotal role involves identifying, evaluating, and cultivating strong relationships with berry growers across Canada and the USA.
Primary Function:
The essential function of this position is to lead and manage all strategic and tactical procurement duties to align with our client's company and departmental objectives. As Procurement Director, you will ensure that our client's grower network is aligned with departmental goals and maintained to the highest standards. This includes identifying growth opportunities, establishing and maintaining excellent grower relationships, overseeing supply projections, ensuring consistent quality to meet brand objectives, and managing communications with growers.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Proactively identify, evaluate, and establish new grower partnerships to expand our client's network of berry suppliers in Canada and the USA.
- Travel extensively to maintain effective communication, oversee pack schedule management, adhere to timelines, ensure quality, and project future yields.
- Manage seasonal and weekly forecasting with growers to facilitate effective retail program management by the sales team.
- Organize and lead procurement meetings with a structured agenda to drive productive supplier relationships and achieve procurement objectives.
- Ensure growers adhere to our client's quality requirements, including packaging schedules and specifications, to maintain product integrity and meet customer expectations.
- Collaborate with the executive team to develop acreage plans, determine quantities, and select growing regions based on current and projected market demands.
- Work closely with the executive team to execute targeted growth strategies across Canada and the USA, ensuring alignment with our client's company objectives.
- Supervise, train, and evaluate the performance of current and future Grower Liaisons within the procurement department to enhance team effectiveness and support departmental goals.

- Strong financial acumen with the ability to make rapid decisions.
- Excellent negotiation and communication skills, with the ability to build and maintain long-term relationships.
- Keen attention to detail and accuracy in data input and analysis.

- Results-oriented mindset, prioritizing objectives and measuring risks.
Education/Background Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent preferred in a related field.
- Previous management experience with building and developing teams.
- Proven experience (at least 7 years) in procurement, sourcing, or supply chain management within the agriculture, fresh produce, or food distribution industry, with a focus on berries being preferred but not essential.
Specific Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
- Valid passport and ability to travel internationally.
- Bilingual preferred but not essential: English/Spanish.
