Position Summary:
You are a highly seasoned operations management professional that is well versed in development of operations strategy, lean manufacturing, and in running day to day operations of high-volume production facilities. Your strong industrial, process, or chemical engineering background has educated you on best-in-class production processes, and you're comfortable working with and managing large teams, and communicating with all layers of the organization.
You will work closely with the production Manager and Director of Operations to manage and optimize the operations of Colourific's production facility.
Job Specific Responsibilities & Duties:
- Supervision of the production lines and all production employees, focusing on safety, quality, and productivity
- Supervise the startup and shut down of the production line, ensuring that the line is ready for operation at start and ready for shut down at end of shift
- Ensure the continuous and efficient flow of material to and from the production lines as required based on the production schedule
- Read and understand work orders, use work order information and material locations to identify upcoming material on the floor
- Review customer product drawings (work orders) for proper loading instructions
- Monitor & adjust production line metrics including oven temperatures, line speed, and chemicals
- Coordinate with shipping/Receiving and Material Handlers for the delivery & removal of product to & from the production line
- Coordinate with Shipping/Receiving for the delivery of and removal of customer product to & from the facility
- Monitor the performance of the production line to minimize line stoppage and productivity interruptions.
- Report on any discrepancies or issues with the production schedule, and ensure the logging and communication of all back orders and NCRs
- Oversee and delegate the cleaning, maintenance and preparation of racking, ensuring sufficient racking for upcoming orders
- Move and balance the workers between production lines and functions, to ensure people aren't standing around and functions that require extra team members have access to them
- Enforce safety practices and a safe work environment plant wide. Enforce all Colourific company policies and procedures as contained in the Employee Policy Handbook
- Work with Quality Control to ensure accuracy of coating report and ERP production summary prior to submission to Sales team
- Monitor customer materials for defects and damage, and communicate any issues to the Quality team and Production Manager
- Communicate job specific quality and processing instructions to your team and other departments as needed
- In coordination with the Quality lead confirm quality inspections have been completed and documented
- Provide daily feedback to the management team and actively participate in daily and weekly production meetings and team communications
- Assist with onboarding and training of new hires, and oversee and coordinate cross-training and re-training for all personnel
- Utilize cross-training tracking sheet (Skills Matrix) to monitor status of cross-training and function capabilities
- Provide feedback to HR Manager on employee concerns and recommendations (including performance and attendance), and assist in the building of a high performing team
- Develop effective and professional working relationships with team members and co-workers, ensuring a positive work environment is maintained at all times
- Perform inventory checks on First Aid supplies in the facility and replenish the supplies regularly. Proactively communicate with the purchasing department to ensure sufficient supply of First Aid supplies and PPE.
- Communicate with the Maintenance department with any feedback on equipment, risks or malfunctions
- Support lean manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives
- Monitor operations and trigger corrective actions through Kaizen events using communication boards as main tool
- Look for continuous improvement opportunities to increase production, assets capacity and flexibility while minimizing unnecessary costs and maintaining or improving upon current quality standards
- Develop systems and processes that track and optimize productivity and standards, metrics and performance targets to ensure effective return on assets
- Delegate Kaizen events accountability tracking accomplishment levels (utilizing communications board)
- Run (2) 5S exercises per year across the facility
Qualifications & Requirements:
- College or university degree in Engineering, Business, or related work experience
- Minimum 5 years of proven experience leading/ supervising production in a manufacturing or warehouse setting
- Powder coating experience an asset
- Lean Manufacturing training & experience required
- Effective leadership, analytical and problem solving skills
- Must possess positive team attitude, strong work ethic, time-management skills, multi-tasking skills and ability to meet deadlines & be a team player
- Proven success in conflict resolution, disciplining, managing processes, process improvement and production planning
- Must have proficient computer skills
- ERP system knowledge
- Effective verbal & written communication skills
- Ability to handle diverse personalities and able to work across departmental lines effectively
- Ability to meet the physical demands of the jobs including kneel standing/lifting for periods of time
- Ability to handle pressure and tight deadlines
- Ability to work in a fast paced, dynamic work environment
- You must be legally eligible to work and currently residing in Canada
