As a Data Analyst, you will support Calgary Transit in the collection, integration, analysis and presentation of business information. You will be responsible for developing reporting infrastructure, reports, dashboards and data models to deliver decision-focused insights using a variety of tools and platforms including Power BI, Azure, SharePoint, Content Server, and Crystal Reports. Strong SQL, data modeling, analysis, visualization design skills, and statistical analysis are prerequisites for this role. By collecting and analyzing transit data (schedule adherence, passenger volumes, customer surveys, and other research related data) and turning them in to key insights, the Data Analyst provides business intelligence reporting for use by all Calgary Transit divisions. Primary duties include:

  • Plan, design and implement data management and analysis strategies.
  • Develop, manage, track and maintain data and databases.
  • Report results, interpretation, impact, patterns, trends, and recommendations.
  • Create, deploy, update, and maintain Power BI dashboards
  • Collect, qualitative and quantitative analysis, interpretation and dissemination of Calgary Transit data; obtain data by field surveys, onboard checks and computer-based Automatic Passenger Counting/Automatic Vehicle Tracking System (APC/AVTS).
  • Perform and implement rigorous data quality checks and processes to ensure data is accurate.

Qualifications

  • A completed 2 year diploma in Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Transportation, Planning, Business or Science plus at least 3 years' experience in data analysis/management.
  • A valid Class 5 Driver's License (or provincial equivalent), with no more than 6 demerits and no current suspensions or charges pending.
  • Ability to obtain a City of Calgary operator's permit.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Microsoft Power Business Intelligence (BI) or similar BI tool, and Structured Query Language (SQL) are required.
  • Experience with database management, computer programming, business process improvement, quality assurance, and project management will be considered an asset.
  • Working knowledge in different programming / scripting languages (e.g. R, Python, Javascript) is also considered an asset.
  • Previous experience with other transit/transportation software products (for example; route scheduling, computerized passenger information systems) would be beneficial.
  • Success in this position requires skills in planning, organizing, database analysis, arithmetic calculations, attention to details, strong communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively and work as part of a team.
  • The ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical partners, the ability to proficiently deal with multiple competing priorities and strong critical thinker with an aptitude for problem solving and dealing with ambiguity are also desired.
