Role Overview

As an Azure Data Engineer, you will play a key role in developing and maintaining the company's modern data platform. You will collaborate with business stakeholders, data analysts, and IT teams to design scalable data pipelines, optimize data storage, and ensure reliable data availability across the organization.

This is a remote position, but applicants must reside in Calgary, Alberta, for occasional on-site meetings and collaboration sessions.

Key Responsibilities


• Design, develop, and maintain data pipelines and ETL processes in Azure using services such as Azure Data Factory, Synapse Analytics, and Databricks.


• Build and manage data models, data lakes, and data warehouses to support business intelligence and reporting.


• Optimize data storage, retrieval, and performance using Azure SQL Database, Azure Data Lake, and related technologies.


• Implement data quality, governance, and security best practices in compliance with company and industry standards.


• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand data requirements and deliver scalable solutions.


• Support data analytics and visualization initiatives (Power BI, Tableau, etc.) by ensuring data is accurate, clean, and accessible.


• Monitor and troubleshoot data pipelines, ensuring reliability and performance.


• Contribute to the development of data architecture documentation and technical design standards.

Required Qualifications


• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field.


• 3–5+ years of hands-on experience as a Data Engineer or ETL Developer, with a focus on Azure technologies.


• Strong proficiency with:


• Azure Data Factory (ADF)


• Azure Synapse Analytics / Data Warehouse


• Azure Data Lake (Gen2)


• Azure Databricks / Spark


• Azure SQL Database


• Solid experience in Python, SQL, and data modeling (star/snowflake schemas).


• Strong understanding of data warehousing concepts, ETL design, and data architecture patterns.


• Experience implementing data governance, security (RBAC, Azure AD), and monitoring in Azure.


• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.


• Ability to work independently in a remote environment while collaborating effectively with local Calgary-based teams.

Nice-to-Have Skills


• Experience with Power BI or other visualization tools.


• Familiarity with DevOps concepts (CI/CD pipelines, Azure DevOps, Git).


• Exposure to construction industry data or project management systems (e.g., Procore, Primavera, etc.).


• Microsoft Azure Data Engineer Associate (DP-203) certification.
