Special Commodities Coordinator

Position Summary As a Special Commodities Coordinator, you'll play a key role in executing freight operations with a focus on pricing, carrier relationships, order setup, and customer communication. You will be responsible for quoting, booking, dispatching, and ensuring that shipments are handled accurately and professionally. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys logistics, thrives on precision, and takes pride in delivering excellent service to both internal teams and external customers.
Key Responsibilities Daily Operations
- Qualify quote requests
- Set up quotes accurately and according to process
- Reach out to carriers to obtain rates and costs
- Work with the Special Commodities Manager to determine sell rates
- Present quotes to customers and follow up in a timely manner
- Set up orders with complete and accurate shipment details
- Dispatch carriers and confirm receipt of instructions
- Send BOLs and ensure all stakeholders are informed
- Track and update shipments as required until delivery is complete
- Notify Manager of any errors or service issues
- Alert Special Commodities Manager when shipment is complete for billing review
- Research and provide tariff and spot quotes as needed
- Monitor market changes and communicate impacts to the team
- Support pricing team with accurate and timely data
- Build and maintain relationships with core carriers
- Proactively develop relationships with new and existing carriers
- Negotiate LTL and TL rates
- Plan and coordinate major logistics projects
- Select carriers strategically to maximize profitability through consolidation and rate optimization
- Maintain and update carrier and customer profiles
- Help build and expand the carrier network
- Gather and input rate data into internal systems
Qualifications
- 1–3 years of experience in logistics, transportation, or a 3PL environment
- Strong understanding of LTL, FTL, and freight pricing practices
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and TMS platforms (Truckmate or similar)
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to follow-through
