Role Overview
As a Staff Accountant at you will support the day-to-day operations of the accounting and finance team. Working closely with the Controller, you will assist in the preparation of financial statements, collaborate on cross functional projects, monitor & assess key performance indicators, and help to build process efficiencies within the department. Your role will be centred around four main pillars: month end close, P&L reporting by function and business line, budget/forecast support, along with process improvement and by extension documentation. This role requires collaboration, analytical thinking, and strong attention to detail.

In this role, you will

  • Month End Close

  • Bank and payment processor reconciliations

  • Prepare supporting analysis for journal entries
  • Deliver financial and operational reports for other departments

  • P&L Reporting

  • Support with the preparation of profit and loss statements by function and by business line

  • Prepare analysis towards trends and variances month over month and against budgets
  • Summarize results for management reviews

  • Budget and Forecast Support

  • Annual Planning

  • Budget to actual variance analysis

  • Process Improvement

  • continuously assessing and recommending improvements for accounting processes, controls, and the efficiency of the Finance team.

  • Partner with operations and IT teams as part of a financial systems transformation

  • Assist with uploading sale transactions

  • Entering supplier invoices and SG&A expenses
  • Audit vendor invoices and inventory quantities
  • Prepare accurate monthly financial statements in a timely manner
  • Manage vendor payment processing in multiple currencies
  • Monitor customer credit card transactions and refunds
  • Assist with management reporting on performance indicators
  • Assist with projects such as the annual budget and corporate valuation

Our ideal candidate

  • The successful candidate will possess a post-secondary degree in Accounting (or equivalent) with 2-4 years of experience.

  • Preference will be given to candidates currently enrolled in an Accounting designation (CPA)

  • Demonstrable knowledge of, and understanding of, accounting standards (ASPE and or IFRS)

  • Demonstrated professionalism when handling financial information.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Strong analytical skills with keen attention to detail to research and resolve issues.
